Default Slots or holes?

I'm about to replace my rotors ('87 Carrera) and was curious about the differences that you all may have found between slotted and drilled rotors. Is there a noticable difference between the two? Any suggestions on a manufacturer? Thanks in advance!

I have heard that the drilled rotor tend to crack under hard use.

Use slotted ones on those cars,.....

Make certain that the slots do not extend to the outer or inner edges.

You won't crack them from street use,but on the track you certainly will.

Do you track the car any? If not, like Steve said.

Aren't the stock rotors vented, and not solid type rotors? I don't know on the 87 models?

My stock rotors are vented radially with solid friction surfaces. I don't track the car, street use only. Thanks!

When I upgraded my previous SC to Boxster brakes they talked me into slotted rotors because of the potential for cracking. I wish I had gotten the drilled only because I think they look cooler. I really should grow up.

the slotted ones look cool too, and they won't create as much dust as the drilled ones. drilled rotors act like cheese graters.

Here is a link to some previous threads regarding my experience with cross drilled and slotted rotors. Post #19 has a few more links of interest.

Personally I wouldn't use the cross drilled.

Well, the previous OE rotors only lasted 242 months so I figured I would see how long the drilled ones last. If I next post on this subject in or after the year 2028 we know the drilled are as good as the non-drilled. If I post prior to 2028, we know they ain't as good.

Slots vs hoes?

Aren't slots cheaper?

The new rotors on my Infiniti have both slots and holes. They work great, but the feeling reminds me of the diffent surface and makes me wonder what regenerative braking must feel like on hybrids. Hope I can find a Honda Insight to tweak for my kids' first car.

.....So with the slotted ones the dust comes off like potato chips instead of hash browns?
