Default Redyed and Repainted my Heater Control *****

I was going to purchase new control ***** to replace my sun faded pink ones. However, I discovered that I could not find replacements that had the word "Defrost" like the originals. So I decided to redye the faded ***** to bring them back to life. I am not craftiliy inclined whatsoever, but they turned out well following a thread I found on how to do them. I then repainted the white lettering and voila! Small project I know, but it was a good feeling of accomplishment. As silly as it sounds, this really does add a lot to the interior of my car!

Talking Heater Lever Handles

These are some I did about 4 or 5yrs ago. I didn't use the Ritt dye method, I used the Krylon plastic formulated paint, and a white paint pen that I cut the point to a very sharp fine point. I also modified how the heater cables attached to the heat levers, when I replaced the broken rusty factory cable cores. I replaced the cores with stainless steel core material that I found locally, about $0.40 a foot. These are the only pictures that I have of the mod.

I see different people have tried different dye colors. Which one seems to be the closest? Also, I wonder if this technique could be used on the later seat belt latch push buttons? ANyone know if that pushbutton can be removed without issues?

Darn. Wish I'd known you could do this. I felt quite efficacious to have installed replacements bought from Pelican, but it'd be so much the better to have restored the originals!

Those little details make a BIG difference. Nice job, they're as beautiful as
heater ***** can be!

okay I blew it already ..... good job I have spares.... i got them off and the instructions said to clean them with minral spirets and I ued lacquer thinner instead..... and they melted .. lacquer thinner is basically acetone... what a bummer .... the other one I cleaned with brake cleaner hoping that my experience can help someone else in the long run . I will report back later.

Soap and water my friend. I honestly was too naive to use anything else. Maybe it paid off this time.

When I did the one that I restored, I used a tooth brush and 409 spray cleaner. I did use the Krylon FUSION paint, that is supposedly made for painting plastic surfaces. It worked great! The brake cleaner and carb cleaner and lacquer thinner are all too "HOT" to use for this application. Tooth brush and a little 409 and water rinse off.

Well the project continues .. I have taken some pics a I am pushing through . i did use a sharp pint and pic out the old white paint before dying .. i was amazed how easy it all fell out. I am done the dying and drying. I jusy have to do the painting now ... have to wait till al the cfeine works out of my system so my hand will stop shaking and we will be all set.
