Default Dilled airbox?

The drilled airbox was a common mod when I had my 964 with a number of people doing it to mainly to get greater induction noise. Is it also a possibility on the 3.2?

It's a possibility, and it will give more noise, but nothing more. I cut the top off of my airbox (leaving just enough frame to keep the air filter in) and it was louder. I've since removed the airbox and put a cone filter up in the rear wing against the screen to get cooler air.

... not to nit pick but I think this could be confusing to the uninitiated.

We are talking here about driling holes in the air filter housing cover NOT the airbox. The airbx in terms of the CIS cars is the plastic intake plenum that should NOT have any holes drilled in it .. unless putting in a pop off valve .. their in lies a whole other thread ...

back to your regularly scheduled program ...

Cheers guys, I think I'll probably do it when I next get a bored sunday afternoon as it's such an easy mod and I liked the effect it had when I had the 964.

Thanks iceman for the clarification - I wouldn't want to be the cause of people taking a drill to the box itself!!

pics on Pelican of these - will have to search

I like induction noise so it is something I'd do if I had a DME and that cover on my car. Everyone differs in what they like tho.

Drilling holes in the cover is a way to make the motors of certain classes of Porsche club racers to breathe better without breaking the rules. You can put headers on but you have to use the OEM intake system.

you can only hear it at WOT, ie foot right down, otherwise sounds as per standard.

be prepared for a quick return to the petrol station.....

I did it to my 964 but once I got a G pipe I could no longer hear it. Check out this thread where Marc Shaw used the Bosch Hammer to show higher intake temps with the cutaway airbox vs stock airbox with snorkel.

I did this to Old Man Neri's car as well. But before I did, I bought a used cover from someone off Pelican and saved the original one. I think it was a $25 cost, but too some time to find.
