Question Converting a Post-74 911 to a pre-74 look??

OK, I think might me crazier than I realize, but I like the look of the pre-74 911's more than I do the 74-77 911. Can I bolt on new front fenders, front and rear bumpers and acheive the look, anyone done anything like this? Am I asking for trouble?

I don't know the answer to your question, but I'm curious: If you like the look, why not just replace your current car with an older one? Are the 74-77 cars cheaper?

Also, if you do replace your fenders & hood, I'm looking for a hood & left front fender.

the front hood latch area is longer on pre 74's and the rear center reflector would have to be cut out.It can be done but I would leave it alone <img src="graemlins/nono.gif" border="0" alt="[nono]" />

I don't know if this is his reason, but the 76 has a fully galvinized body, where 73 and older cars aren't. Less of a rust risk with the 76.

I have spent a lot of money on my car, and to sell it, I would take a loss. Yes the pre-76 cars are not galvanized, hence my second motivation to use my galvanized and currently rust free car. I believe I've gotten the drivetrain to the point that I will be happy with it for awhile (may get power hungry). If it were an easy process, then it will be my next money pit project. If I have to perform too many modifications, and be without the car for too long, then I'll just be content witht he 76S until I come across a pre-74 car that's within my budget.

I just like the look of the pre-76 cars, not to say that I don't like the others. just throwning out the thought for discussion. thanks for the input.

I love your comment about the next money pit project! LOL. I feel the same way about my car. I think the answer is to own a 73, keep my SC and then find a real nice silver C4s.

Been here done this, to achieve the desired result, 74 and later to 73 and earlier impactless bumpers. the following are needed:
73&lt; fenders, long hood and latches, front latch panel, and bumpers/or spoilers front and rear.
The only non-bolt on part of the job, welding required is the front bulkhead/latch panel. This can be done two ways, short front clip from an early car, or new latch panel. the rest of the job is straight forwrd race type mounting of f-glass bumpers/spoilers, fab as needed. It was common in the late 70's-80's to go the other way, make 73 and under to look 74 and newer!!!

Thanks All. Now, off to the garage. It's almost nice out today...more trouble shooting on the car to get ready for nicer weather.
