Default right-hand (euro) wiper swap

I've seen a few cars w/ this option/mod that were not european registered, thus leading me to believe such a mod is not too difficult to perform on the US cars.
My search didn't really provide all that many promising leads to answers, pics, (how-to's) etc.

Has anyone here done it? What is involved in the mod and where can i find the part number for an angled (euro) wiper arm?

I'd rather not just bend this one and risk breaking it.

Hi Dan,
I did this to my 74S. And yes, I did bend my wiper arm.

I'll go take some pics and be back in a minute, wait one.

Ok. the first pic is of the wiper system.
the second pic shows the shaft that comes out of the wiper gearbox and the arm it drives and the nut that holds it all together.

You undo that nut and lift the arm up off the shaft. from memory the shaft is tapered and splined. (just like the shaft end that the actual wiper bolts to on the wind screen)
Then rotate the arm (as if the wipers are operating) 180 degrees. Relocate it onto the shaft and do the nut up.

Easy!

Just remember the shaft rests in the position that the wipers "park" at. If you rotate the arm 180 Deg, the shaft will "park" at the same place but the wipers will be on the other side.

Hope this helps.

I put the end of my bent wiper in a vice and gently bent it by hand the same amount the other way. Never had a problem with it.

If I may offer a suggestion, when playing with wipers never attach the actual arms until you fire up the motor, switch the system on, and watch the shafts turn. Few things can cause more angst than watching your newly-repaired wipers cut a path through the beautiful paint on the cowl of your car!

Personally, I would never do this modifications, it will make driving in the rain a pain.

Old man neri is right.
Porsche played around with having the wipers "park" on the passenger side, but opted to have them on the driver's side. Their explanation was that when driving, water or anything else that may come up the hood into the windshield, will be deflected by the standing wipers. (BTDT). They found this to be more reason to keep them as they were designed than the minimal visibility gained by parking them on the passenger side.

Ya, basically what the guy above me said. Also in the rain the wiper pushes the rain down and keeps in there. Ever notice how on the other side rain seems to crawl up the windshield after a wiper pass?

I can identify with either of the above reasons for NOT doing it. I don't actually drive the car in the rain so the water puddling under the wiper would not be an issue for me, but I can certainly see the point.

As to deflecting road debris; perhaps. If it didn't have enough velocity to 'stay the cousre' and collide hard enough to bend the wipers and not crack the glass, then I would bet it wouldn't be any more apt to break through the windshield with the wipers on the other side.

All that being said, I think about it differently.... if the wipers are parked on the other side, I don't have to worry about scraping them along my torso if I happen fly out through the windshield!
