I doubt hot rodders will touch 911 engines ... too expensive to fix. As conversions go, I like the SC with the Subaru flat six ... sounds a lot like a Porsche ... more hp ... cheaper to fix.

buy a used vette. btw, a chev engine will not change your speed unless you also change the final drive ratio.....
yes, the seller told me he changed the final drive so in 4th gear at 80mph your in the 2500 rpm range. i have to drive it to really know whats up but he won't show it in the rain

Thumbs down Hell No!

No to V8's
Buck .95
Put a 3.6 L in it from a 964 or 993!
It will go as fast and you will may get your money back when your ready to sell it.

I just checked the craigslist site for the 1966 912 conversion and it is no longer there. I guess the car went quickly at $3500.

I'm with the other guy who agreed that he loves the merits of v-8 horsepower, but not in a Porsche. In a similar thread months ago, someone commented that such a conversion is not so much a Porsche, any longer, but a "hotrod." For the money you're looking at spending, you might get a 911 in good shape and have room left to modify the original engine.

Whatever you decide, it's you that has to be happy with the purchase. Enjoy what you get, and by all means, do tell us all about what you decide, and how you find it -- the good and the bad.

For those interested in Chevy V8 Porsches, this might be a good place to start: http://www.renegadehybrids.com/indexx.html

I figure a Chevy V8 Porsche is worth about the same or a little less than a regular stock Porsche. So you can easily do the math to realize that any money sunk into the project will not yield any return whatsoever. But then again, if you have to rebuild your stock flat-6, you will not make any money on the sale either. So it all depends on what floats your boat, but be advised that a flat-6 car will always be more desirable than a Chevy-versioned Porsche if you decide to sell it.

For someone who has supposedly owned two 993's, and actually looked at a bastardized SC/993 conversion.......now you have switched to wanting this other POS.............come on kid, dont waste these good guys time.

I agree with those who have posted "just say no." That said, how much does the V8 weigh, more or less than the original motor? Has the suspension (T-bars, etc.) been re-tuned to accomodate the change in weight? "Serious speed" can easily equate to flying off the road backwards, at which point you will definitely want to have, as someone posted, that roll bar padded! If you need this car to get it out of your system, so be it - you can re-name it your Porvette...

You also must find out what smog laws the car must meet, and get some sort of guarantee that the car will pass any required tests (put 20% of the purchase price in an escrow account, or an agreement that if you can't register the car the seller must take it back, etc.)...

I would rather have a 944/968/928 Chevy Conversion with the Vette motor per the artcile in Excellence a few months ago.

Did you check out the spec on that ? It looks to be seriously well built. I doubt you could build it for anywhere near that price, even if the labor was free.

aside from the rear flares i'll have to weld on, and the new paint he says it needs, i think it's a nice conversion. smogging will always be an issue though but i have a hook up for that.

I just don't get it. You are buying a porsche for the look, for the engine, for the cache. To get one with a chevy engine seems...well...sacreligious. I would not even know what to tell someone when they asked me what I had under the hood expecting to hear 2.7 or 3.0 or 3.2, but not 350. Better that it sold quickly so that you don't have to dwell on it.
