Default Car Sold! :( :( :( :( or.... :) :) :) time to get a coupe!

So I had gotten over the whole "sell my car" phase and was ready to pamper my baby till death do us part and I got a call this morning. Someone came over, looked at the records, drove the car, and bam offered 21K on the spot. How could I say no?

iceman i barely recognized you with your avatar change! Yea I mean, I probably coulda squeezed more out of him but he seemed like a nice guy. He was saying "wow your car drives so tight, i just drove an 88 two days ago, its a piece of crap compared to your car". To which I responded "tender love and care". Anyhow he wants me to say that I sold it for 16K so that he doesnt have to pay as much tax, this is a bad idea right? I mean, technically it could be agreed upon that my car is only worth 16K but I dunno. I don't mind letting my car go for 21K even though I am attached to it, the bigger question is, what the hell do I drive now?

So do you mean to to tell us that you had no intention of selling your car and it just happened by chance, or had you planned to sell it and it just happened faster than you thought. Was this to upgrade or to liquidate.

Well I wanted a 993, then a fellow rennlister put me in my place and made me realize that I cant really afford to maintain a 993 most likely. So then I was happy to keep the 911 and had forgotten to take down my ads. This morning someone came by, drove it, and offered 21K cash.

I'm glad I got something out of the buttloads of money I put into the car. To be honest, I think its worth 22K, but in the market it SHOULD have fetched 19K. I got lucky.

That's great!

One of my daily drivers once sold the same accidental way... which put me into my first Porsche!

I love the look of this car but it seems like too much of a frankenstein car for me

Yeah I think loaded had his listed for 17K at one point so I think you did well, I think his was A similar year. Don't feel like oyu like to discuss price however ( the guy you just sold it to may be a future renlister :-) .. )

i think the 993 is a great idea, I don't think they would be much more to maintain than ours, especially a 95 with pre OBD 2 SAI monitoring. That will be my next car and I an mot worried about it in the least, I think they are fine cars, not to knock our 964 bretheren but I would jump right over that to buy a 993, I think the looks are great and they are still close enough to our generation that it would not be totally foreign.
If that's what you want go get it ..

Ps the Avatar is on Hiatus since my car is .. well , except for today .. just got back after a run btween the ice patches ..

A 993 will eat rear tires, but little else over and above your car if it's a well-maintained example. Go for it! I looooooovvvvvveee mine.

Good point Ed, but remember I'm only 23 I think the yellow car I linked for 13.5K is probably better for me than a 33K monster.

If I had a chance to get a 993 when I was 23, I sure would have ... but great idea to keep within your means.

Congrats on the sale! Now for the fun part - finding a suitable replacement...

I would agree that a well preserved 993 would be "relatively" cheap to upkeep - but man they are expensive when things go wrong. Any 993 that's worth investing in is going to be a 35K car. If you spend less (especially since you seem to want to invest lots of TLC into p-cars) - plan on spending that + Xamount that will equal 35K. Oil changes are incredibly expensive if you don't do them yourself, alignments have to come frequently as 993s eat tires, clutch jobs are very pricey, etc. etc. If you have cash lying around like that, then go for it.

The yellow mid-year you're looking at looks like it may be fun (given a successful PPI), but would be next to impossible to re-sell (I've seen that car on pelican for quite some time now).

Check out some earlier cars (70-73.5T) - you can get a really nice example for less than 20K, and those cars are a blast (as long as you don't live in a rainy or snowy area and need a daily driver).

If not, what about an '02 Boxster S?

Just my 2cents - best of luck in the search for a new pcar.
