Ahh, I see. You're quite wise for 23, I'd say. I was nearly twice your age before I jumped into the Porsche waters for the first time, having satisfied housing, kids, careers, entreprenuerialism, spouses, etc., beforehand.

Well, you probably could get them down to around 10-11K as a final price (if the PPI checks out and car is mechanically as represented). Worst case scenario, you enjoy the car for a few years, and sell it for 7-8K. Not bad.
Also, you have an rev-happy SC engine in a 76 body - the car should go like stink.

The Frankencars will be tough to maintain unless you know who did all the work and have good access to them.
Having had a 964 I can tell you that they are, along with the 993, more expensive to maintain. All the consumables like tires, pads, rotors, etc. cost more. Price a set of spark plug wires! They're also a little harder to work on and sometimes you will have no choice but to take it to a shop that can read the computer codes.

Good point Chris, my reason for staying away from 993s while I am working on my PhD, DONT HAVE ENOUGH TIME to do it all myself and mechanics can be $$$ drains. On another note I got a few more pics of the frankencar that make me drool and cry, these are in addition to the ones on the link on this thread. I'm always weary of buying chopped up cars but man this one has mezmorized me. Imagine the light weight of a mid 70s 911 with a 911SC engine, thats gotta be a great performer, and its a looker too. It also had a wide body conversion done when the changed the paint color to that beautiful yellow. That means that when I do an engine rebuild I could possibly go turbo

13K would seem steep to me for a non #s matching car, but that's me. If I were you, and I wanted yellow, I would post on rennlist and pelican saying you're looking for a nice, yellow SC or Carrera - I bet you get a bite or two.
Worst case, you let this guy sit on his car for a while - maybe the price comes down. if it sells, so be it.

Well the thing is I am carless as of next wednesday when the guy picks up my carrera. Biking 7 miles in the rain to school does not sound too great to me
I guess I should get a beater/rentail in the meantime.

I am kinda scared, I read my 911 buyers guide and it seems 1976 was a huge problematic year for the 911. Also since its mated with an 83 SC engine, who knows what problems it can have....
Someone knock some sense into me and tell me to calm down? Or am I absolutely right in saying that my 3.2 is probably 10 times more stable than that 76 yellow 911?
