Default My 3.2 rebuild saga continues...

I've been gone a whole lot lately, so not much had been done. But, I did get the LH heads and cam tower on the other day. It is starting to look like an engine again. I am hoping to do the other side's heads and cam tower tomorrow, then it's out of town again for a few days....

Wow Ed, beautiful! Are those powder coated valve covers turbo covers or regular? Do you have a list of all the things you bought and how much they cost? I would love to see that if you would be kind enough.

Thanks! They are "turbo" valve covers, which are standard on Carreras, to my knowledge. They are machined for twin plugs, otherwise they're stock.

After taking these pics the other day, I decided the "titanium" colored ceramic coating needed something, so I painted the letters and ribs in red:

As far as my build sheet, here goes off the top of my head:

Case cleaned and checked for bore, oil galleys, squirters, etc.
Crank mag'd, cleaned and micropolished
Heads rebuilt, new exh valves, twin plugged , racing springs, Ti retainers
P's and C's inspected, and are well within spec, being reused
Rods rebushed and resized
Rockers rebushed and refurbed
Cams ground to DR Camshafts DC19 profile
Cam towers inspected and cleaned
New main, rod and intermediate bearings
ARP rod bolts
Supertec head studs
Wrightwood Racing viton gasket set
Rebuilt injectors
Cleaned and tested engine-mounted oil cooler
New: rings, chains, ramps, oil return tubes, case hardware, oil relief valve hardware, rocker hardware & seals, alternator
Misc Cad plating and powder coating

Probably ending up a bit north of $9500 in parts, machining, coating and shipping costs.

Thanks. Building a nice new clean engine is certainly more fun than tearing down the old, dirty one.

Got the other side's heads and cam tower on today. I'll be out of town for a few days, but I'll get into the cam timing and a lot of the balance of the assembly next week. I should have substantial completion done by the end of T-day weekend.

Anyone know how many miles are on Ed's car? Just wondering why he did top and bottom rebuild. Maybe because he just likes doing it

I know I know....

Can I tell Ed?

He missed a shift on a Texas track (forget where exactly) I believe it's calle "the money shift" bounced the tach off 9K and bounced the valves off a couple pistons.

Sorry Ed, but we have been really glad you did this 'cause we all been taken notes.

....and you guys thought I wasn't payin' attention.

You're taking notes? **** I'm so gonna fail! Can I copy your notes? It's not cheating if we don't get caught.

I had 130,000 miles on her when the INCIDENT occurred. The sadness of it all is that the engine's internals were in beautiful shape, with only some minor wear on the intermediate shaft bearings. But, I hope she'll have a little more power and longevity after all of this.
