Default Contemplating sale if my 911.

Hi all,

I am thinking about selling my beloved 911, I just never have time to really enjoy the car and it just sits in the garage, I have owned the car about 12 years. I would like to put some money into my house.
I wont be Porsche-less, picking up a 996.

What do you guys think I can sell it for, this is a bad time of the year to sell for sure.

Here are some details:
It’s a Very clean 86 911 Carrera Targa – Clean Title – Always garaged in New Jersey
It’s Guards Red with a Grey/Beige FULL leather interior. (not the dash)
5 Speed
Alpine AM/FM/XM CD
Turbo Tie rods
17” 993 Cup Wheels with new tires
About 95K miles
Targa top in Very good shape
Refurbished Targa seals done by John Pateraks shop in NJ
H4 Headlamps
Carrera Tail and front spoiler
No dings
Trans Rebuilt at 80K miles

Paints a 9+ out of 10, virtually no stone chips, Looks great
Interior has no rips or tears, Bolsters in good shape, Leather is in good shape
New Floor Mats
Factory plush carpets with matching trunk carpet

The Bad:
AC does not work (leak)

It’s a really sweet no excuses car.

Thanks

Are they genuine cups (with adaptors?)
Any other work to the suspension?

keep it. after 12 years, it's part of your family at this point.

Yup, I am too attached, My wife even said DO NOT SELL THAT CAR!
She knows I will regret it.

I took it for a nice spin Sunday and remembered that as nice as my Boxster S was and I'm sure the 996 I plan to buy will be fun, There is NOTHING like a real 911

Good decision! I have my '88 Carrera and just picked up an '02 C4S as my daily driver. Very different cars but both incredibly fun.

I'm glad to hear you're keeping it. Now I won't have to lecture you about the time I sold my beloved BMW Z3 for a stupid reason and regretted it every day thereafter and bought a MINI Cooper thinking that would make up for it only to have the MINI dump its transmission out of warranty and I lost over $5000 on it by the time I sold it and had to wait a year to recover until finally, finally...

... I bought an 87 Carrera Cabriolet and life has been wonderful ever since.

Why is this a bad time to sell an older Porsche? It is a perfect time to drive a nice Porsche.

The book that I am looking at says a 1986 Porsche Carrera Targa is worth $16K-$18K (strong #2 condition). They produced 19,502 during 1986-1986.

I just tried to buy a black 1985 Porsche Carrera coupe with 60.6K miles. It was also in excellent condition, and the A/C didn't work. It also had a number of nice modifications (as does your car). It was $24K. We couldn't make a deal.

Personally, if the car was mine, I wouldn't sell it.

In this northern area not a lot of people are keen on buying a convertable 20 year old sports car this time of year because as soon as they buy it they will have to let it sit in the garage for 5 months. From what I have noticed prices drop in the fall and pick up again in the spring.

Mark,

Glad to see you're not selling!

You should find an old Grand Cherokee, though, and mow down some cones in the Lincoln Tunnel! (private joke)

Related not, Mark, I emailed Ken the other day..trying to get back in touch. He's got a DeLorean now, and a Corniche. Both are in sweet condition.

How bout making it to an autocross with NNJR next year? I'm the new chair for 2008.

Hey Drew!! whats up... this summer I had alot going on, New kid, new house... so I had little time for sure.
I'll try and make some next year, see what the 996 I plan to buy can do.

Kenny had a DeLorean and a Coniche... How tacky! Same cars he loved as a kid.

Try the GT3 sway bars and some camber plates. The 996 can be a monster out there.
