911 shopper looking for experienced advice

Don't pass on the '84-86 3.2s completely.
The signifacant difference is the 915 tranny, which may need a rebuild on a candidate car ( 1-2 shifts can be diffcult as they wear) is finicky regarding adjustment and requires learning of a new skill.
It is a little lighter and simpler ,many of us prefer a well adjusted 915 and it will save you $2-5K.
Except for the tranny/clutch, cars are about the same.

I'm getting close. A seller is calling me today. Since they are 600 miles away from me, I feel like it's going to be difficult to get arrange a PPI ... BUT, I'll ask the guy about it. Is it much harder to find dark blue interior parts, as opposed to, say, black?

LUCKe27, do you know how funny that sounds. first off hard to find is good, second that car has showroom interior. You don't want to do anything but the top. even the top could be put down and tucked out of sight. I would take that car in a second. the 600 miles is quite a distance, but worth it. go for a drive, get a room, and spend a day with the car. I found my car about 50 miles from here (it spent it's life in Ohio) and I drove out to see it a couple times. I think I was sold on the first visit but told myself to walk away. go see the car. even if it's a respray it is worth the price.

True.
Well, wouldn't be the first time a said something that sounded funny. I am from the South. My friend was trying to pitch me that having black interior is cheaper in the long run, as more would be available. Anyway, I'm going to try to call you in a minute. Perhaps we can connect.

Just scheduled my PPI for Monday. Hopefully, that process will go off without a hitch. Thanks to all for the advice. If this doesn't go through, I'll just have to keep looking.

Let's wait until Monday, when I'll decide whether to buy the car. I'll end up paying close to what you paid after shipping and Georgia sales tax, but I still can't find one around here for that price. Hopefully, the mechanic doing the inspection will tell me, "it's a great car". If so, they'll be loading it on a truck bound for Hotlanta.

Unfortunately, the car didn't fare well in the PPI. Bottom line is the mechanic doesn't recommend moving forward, as I could drop 5 grand+ in it tomorrow. He said it just hasn't been maintained well at all. There is definitely a reason people keep saying, "GET A PPI" over and over again.
I haven't spoken to the dealer yet, but I think he'd rather hold onto it than drop the price dramatically ... based on our past conversations.
