Default 120000-130000 Checkup Maintainence

Just wondering if there are any parts that typical break down at this mileage or if any parts are recommended to be changed at this mileage. I know one recommendation is CV joints....Anyone got anything else?

Mu car is at 199,900 km which is about 120,000 miles and the car is rock solid. it all depends on what you ahve been doing all along and how you have been maintaining it . by this milage I would have thought everything has been dona and you are on your second go around. i did my CV joints at 170,000km and although there was no obvious signs ( noise , leak etc, ) my joints were totaly shot. I also at that time did , brake lines, turbo tie rods, shocks ( again ) . engine mounts .

fluids; clutch; carry spare fan belt or change it and carry another new one

surely you have had brake pads & clutch done before on that car?

on a 964/993 the little belt inside the distr. is not very long lived - you don't have that tho

I have done all fluids, complete oil system rebuild, brake fluid is clean, fan belt. Clutch was done a little while ago and I am sure it has plenty of life on it. Pads are good for another year, when pads run down I'll probably do pads AND rotors for good measure. I already did distributor cap and rotor 5K miles ago. Car went through a quart of oil in ~1300 miles, I just added a quart.

sounds like you're good to go for another 1300 miles! i would just go by the Bentley manual service intervals. check and see if you are missing anything, take care of that and get back on track for the 15k and 30k services. also, you could have a trusted mechanic do a PPI type service once a year in the same month to try to catch things before they fail.

If you're contemplating having a "major" service done:
1. Oil filter
2. Drain plug seals x 2
3. Fuel filter
4. Air filter
5. Valve cover gasket set
6. Spark plugs (Bosch WR7DC)
7. Oil

I know you state that you've "done all fluids," but when? If it's been 2K miles or so, wait another 3K and do the major and get the car back on its 15K major maintenance routine.

You say that the brake fluid is clean, but what you must do on a 20-year old car is check the date stamps on your brake hoses. Many times they're still original, but must be replaced every 100K miles or 10 years, whichever comes first.

8. Trans fluid (quality synthetic + LSD additive if needed). If it's only been a few thousand miles on this item, leave it alone until the major after the upcoming one.
9. Flex hose for clutch slave; replace as preventive maintenance if you're going to do the brake hoses.
10. Check all the lights in the car, measure alternator output at the battery, check tie rod ends and front ball joints for play, and if they've never been done, consider replacing the front wheel bearings.

Hmmm Pete, I have already done the major 120K server, I did it at about 119K miles. Changed spark plugs, valve adjust (not sure if gasket set was done ill have to check), I rebuilt the oil circulation system so oil was FULLY drained and 13 quarts put in. Drain plug seals done, Oil filter done, Air filter done.

As for items 8, 9, and 10:

I bought the delvac trans oil for LSD 911s and will be changing that very soon. Brake lines, not sure going to have to check that and flex hose for clutch slave I will have to check too. I just did a turbo tie rod upgrade 2 months ago and 4K miles ago I had a new alternator and DME unit put in. Output is normal at battery.

So I guess I should just check the brake lines and clutch slave flex hose.

Thanks Pete! I guess I was taking better care of my car than I thought, who knew. I had a lot of stuff done when I bought the car at a little under 120K miles. About 1500 dollars worth of work immediately.

You might want to ask around, because I don't think you want to change your rotors unless they are bad or you want more performance out of them. From what I understand, it is not uncommon for 911 rotors to last the life of the car if the pads are changed regularly (on time) and there is not undue wear on them.

For all the other items, I don't think there is anything in particular that starts to wear out at this mileage. I think it all depends on the condition and maintenance.

Since you have been on top of your fluids and regular tune-up items, your car can run like this for a long time...

ice: I used Kendall additive at the shop. We built transmissions, with both 40% and 80% setups, for SCCA, IMSA, POC, PCA and other venues and never had a problem. We also used the same additive in all the street cars w/LSD that we maintained. If needed, I would try to find Kendall, their customer service line is (800) 368-7128, and they can probably tell you if someone near you carries it. The mix ratio is about one ounce additive to one pint non-LSD GL-5 fluid. (It seems that everyone carries an additive called Trans-X, but I don't know anyone who has used it.) If I remember correctly the Kendall additive comes in 4 oz. bottles, make sure that you wear latex, that stuff stinks!
