Default YEEHAW!

Welcome me to the current decade, I had High Speed Internet installed at my house this morning. Wow, can't wait to check out a Porsche link on Youtube, or whatever. That said, I do have a problem; the sponsor pics, etc., that are supposed to appear when I enter the Rennlist site are gone, replaced with a line box and a red "X" in a tiny box in the corner. I'm guessing that it might be a security-related problem, and if that's the case how do I get into the Norton/Symantec site to tone down the protection just a bit? (I just realized that my avatar, at least on my monitor, isn't there either...)

rennlist has some pop up stuff, do you see the classifieds link?
do you use IE? is there a white list option somewhere?
I use symantec to, not that I like it, with firefox. I do block pop ups and scripts, and norton is set in the middle somewhere. Disable your norton and see what changes.

oh ya,

Hi pete

it might be your firewall settings also pete. if you're on a PC and not a mac i can't help, but try relaxing your firewall settings if you can navigate there.
(edit: also you may have had a little black box installed in your house - that baby also has a firewall as well as your computer - so 2 levels of firewall. you will have been given the details to control that box and it's firewall settings so if you're computer's settings are as they have always been try accessing 'the box')

Well, I managed to disable the pop-up blocker, but still no advertisers, avatars, etc... I'll try getting into Norton settings next...

Get a Mac, no worrying about viruses! It does this stuff even after you log in? I am no computer whiz, but try downloading the Mozilla Firefox web browser> I have it now on my Mac and on my PC when it was working, and I liked it better than Internet explorer, was easier to use and adjust settings for people like me. Good luck and welcome to the 21st century!

I'm a Mac user too, so not too helpful but I'd call the company providing you with the internet connection and have their technical support folks walk you through it. Technical support comes with the monthly check you are going to start writing.

I know I will get flamed for this but I was a beta tester for windows 95 and Me .... so I am a PC guy all the way. If 95% of the world used Macs you would see issues there as well but with such a small share of the market and virtually no 3rd party hardware or software there is not much to do wrong with a Mac. PCs are open architecture which unfortunately invites all sorts of potential user originated problems. But I love the grass roots history of PCs... I had a TR80 back in the day and love digging into the guts of my PC - over clocking it, etc. If the problem persists PM me and I will walk you through some trouble shooting. You really need to have someone on the phone with you so you can narrow down the possible causes one by one.

Hi Pete,

It sounds like a browser setting. Can you right-click a red x and get the option to "show picture?"

Can't believe anyone would own up to that.

+1, ie is so full of flaws period, as a developer we constantantly have to create 'IE hacks' to get it to work.

BTW: That orange 930 looks bad *** Gary R!
