Starting problem.
74 2.7 New starter, New battery recently installed. Bothe within the last couple of months. Won't start after car warms up.
After car has cooled, Starts right up.
Any ideas what the problem might be. Prime driving now here in New England. Can't stop for a bite to eat without finding a small incline so I can jump start her.
As always any help would be appreciated.

out here in the desert we hear of starters that freeze up in the heat of the day and crank just fine when it cools off. It could be poor cables not letting juice get to the starter or the heat actually making the starter swell up and unable to spin. sorry.....

why was the new starter put in in the first place and did this solve the previous problem at first. are you getting any noise from the starter at all. does it want to crank or is it just not getting juice. what is the condition of the pos. cable?

Replaced starter because of it was just about the only thing original. Seriously, my mechanic who has never steered me wrong or over charged me though it should be rebulit or replaced. I opted for the new starter rather than the rebuild as I would have the car back faster and it was just about eh same in cash.

does it make noise? if it is making noise then we know it is getting power. it is much easier for me to believe the starter is bad and doesn't like heat, than it is to believe the power goes out when it is hot.
...so the old starter always worked?

one of the first stories I heard as a new owner was my neighbor's SC not wanting to start when he stopped for gas out in the desert. he called home and his dad told him to push start it. it fired right up and off he went. when he got back home it was fine and didn't have another problem. went back out to the desert and the problem returned. kind of a built in warning system that sometimes its just too freakin' hot. If your starter was built to a lower speck and not such high quality it probebly wouldn't happen. in the heat the inside swells more than the outside and freezes up. sorry, some times I ramble on. oh, and the misspelled words are 'cause the hampster is out crawling on the keyboard.

Tmack,
I know in the earlier cars, maybe 74s, that the interior heater dump valves used to 'dump' onto the starter motor. Take a look under there, you'll see what I mean. Get someone to pull on th heater levers while you watch.
Take it for a test drive with the heater on flat out (just the levers between the seats)
Drive for the length of time that it takes for it not to start after a stop. (make sure you end up at home)
Turn her off and give it a try.

Put another starter in it. There was a time when Bosch SR 68 X's were so bad that a warranty starter replacement was almost a normal part of the work day at my shop. I once had to put five of them in my '77 before I got one that worked.

Thanks Pete,
I had heard about that problem so I put in the brand new aftermarket high torgue starter from performance products. Today I ordered a starter relay from them thats supposed to cure the problem. As for the heater ducts still happens opened or closed.
