Default My '77 Failed TN emissions test

Just moved to TN and they wanted to sniff my tailpipe...

1st try yielded 5.79ppm of CO... TN limit is 5ppm to pass

Friends said I probably didn't warm engine up enough in 15 drive to inspection station.

Added "Guaranteed 2 Pass" fuel additive... but was supposed to run through an entire tank of gas before going back

Went back next morning, having only expended 1/4 tank of the G2P, but the engine was warmed up from 45 minutes of driving.

2nd try spewed 6.88ppm... Doh! Failed again.

Going to follow directions and run an entire tank of the G2P before letting TN prod my tailpipe again.

They also said my 1,000 RPM idle was probably too high, but I don't have the hours it would take me to follow my CIS books and start fiddling when the only goal would be a lowered idle.

For future reference, can someone recommend a Nashville Porsche shop? I may need it sooner than later.

Wow,

I did not know TN still has emission testing for pre OBD cars.

We just have Saftey for pre-95.

I am not aware of any emission testing in TN (thank goodness!)

Get some classic car/antique plates if you can

nothing like a string of answers that aren't as helpful as you hoped for, eh?

Chris: Is the smog pump functional on your car?

The CO% adjustment on your car should be between 1.5-3.0%, set with the smog pump disconnected and its hose plugged. I think that your best bet is to get the car to a shop and have the CO set...

when I bought my 77 someone had removed all the smog pump stuff. Maybe yours is gone also after 30 years.

Thx... This TN rule apparently only applies to Nashville and neighboring counties. Can't believe my old vette passed instead of my 911.

Time to find a good shop with all the right CIS tools... any recommendation will be taken.

I have a 76 911s without smog stuff, and I just passed my Tennessee emmisions test last week. I live in chattanooga tn. It passed with the lowest numbers possible. maybe because it just came from colorado 6000ft altitude and it was running lean? good luck, i hope it works out for you! mike
