OH, I almost forgot! She has a tail. I love tails. I love dog's tails, cat's tails, I love that monkeys can swing from their tails, I wish I had a tail so.......I had to buy a car with a tail.

1971 - At 8yrs old my father comes home in a yellow 1968 912 that he just purchased from Vasek Polak Porsche. That was the day I learned about and experienced Porsches for the first time and have never looked back.
Flash forward 36 yrs and that 912 is still in the family. My father finished a 4 yr restoration and its back on the road.
My daughter cant decide which car she likes best - Grandpa's 912 or Dad's 964. She is leaning towards the 912.

just a quick update. it's friday here in san diego. we found a 1970 911t for sale by original owner just down the beach. the 2.2 sticker in the back window proudly displayed. no rust to be found. black paint that had an impact w/bondo problem in the hood. R/S door panels and black seats and carpet. great little car dropped a tad further down than it should have been. asking a firm $20,000. Oh ya, surf is back up. We are soooo sun burned its funny. my kids have more wrinkles than I do.

I don't even have a Porsche yet, and I can't explain how these cars make me feel, I don't think I need to, I'm sure you all have an idea. Some of you helped me out in my post about whether I should get a 911 or not. And I decided it was probably more sensible to keep my GTI... well every time I drove it, no matter how much I drove it... it wasn't a 911, (that and nearly every time I drove it something new broke). I didn't get that same feeling as I did when I was about 7 years old riding in the passenger seat of my Dads 930 Targa... I wasn't even driving, hell I barely knew what was going on, but I loved that car more than I have ever loved any car, even to this day, nothing makes me feel the way a 911 does. I remember nearly every ride in that Porsche, the only thing that was perhaps more memorable was the first time I drove a 911... it was a white 86 cab. My dad said that it felt a bit sloppier than a 911 should, but there was still nothing like it. I remember every turn, every time I hit the gas, and so on... I don't know of any other car that I could feel this way about...
A 911 is a hell of a car...
On a side note... anyone know where I can find a good driver 911SC (around $10-$15K)? Haha... and so it begins.

Well the kids are grown, she left, so the first thing I did was call the bank and got me an equity line; then I grabbed the paper and hunted me down a P-car. She's a 1984 Targa, Guards Red. I love the smell of the interior, the sound of the engine and the looks of a timeless beauty. My only regret is that I didn't buy one sooner. ![thumbup](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/thumbup.gif)

Deja vue. A buddy of mine parked his 1973 914-4 in my driveway one day in 1973. A year later it was mine. 2-1/2 years later I ordered a 77 911s and picked it up at Zuffenhausen. 6 years later it was traded for a narrow-bodied 911 turbo. 11 years later it went away and I was "between Porsches." Last year marked another trek to Zuffenhausen for a custom 06 911S mit cabriolet and hardtop. These things are killing me financially but they are as addictive (I assume) as crack cocaine. Which is less expensive? A crack habit or Porsches?

I was in high school. Riding on a school bus back in the mid '70's on my way to a track meet. On a college campus, I saw a 914 with the top off. I was torn between the car and the girl. Which did I lust after more. With time, my tastes in cars and women matured. Now, its 911s and women, that is a much longer, more complicated story .....
An air cooled 911 is not a car. Yes, it will get you from point A to point B like a car, but that is beside the point. The smell of the leather, the sound of the engine, the feel of the clutch, the qurkiness of the gear box, the scream of the rpms. Its closer to having sex with a mistress than driving a car. Each drive is never quite the same as the last time, but each time is a wild, satisfying ride. Ride her hard, respect her gearbox, and she will be happy. In fact, the harder you drive her, the happier she is. Just be gentle with her gear box. Excuse me now, while I go for a ride......

I don't know, for me I don't see it as a time machine but rather as something that is 'timeless'. It's lines are unmistakable, no mater what year of 911 you have it is still gorgeous to this day.
Someone somewhere posted this video of an Isuzu commercial making fun of a 911. Well, 20 years later, that Isuzu in the commercial looks very very ugly, the 911 still looks beautiful.
That's how I see it. A 911 does not age with time.

I'm an unlikely Porsche owner - no family love affair with cool cars or racing, no mechanical inclination anywhere, yet Porsches were always there, hovering in the periphery. As a kid, I built a model of a 914 once, but it didn't ignite the passion. In '98 a friend gave me a tour of the bay area in his SC (I knew it only as a 911 back then), but again the magic didn't strike. I bought Randy Leffingwell's buyer's guide five years ago, and that's when I sort of got serious...four years later, I pulled the trigger on a 993, and WHAMMO! It's all I've thought about for the last year and a half.
Now I want to go back even further in time, to the 3.2's.
These cars are amazing things.

>>Now I want to go back even further in time, to the 3.2's<<
I'm sort of working my way forward. At the moment I'm about 20 years behind the times and catching up fast.
Started out with a 1960 356. I still have it. And I will now have to keep it. My 5yr old grandson was helping me clear the carbie jets last weekend and offered to buy it "When I finish school and know everything". Ok, I said, how much you gonna pay me? "I'll give you ten dollars". Done deal I said.
Lately I acquired a 1985 Carrera. And the magic took on another dimension. The raw power of it!
This morning my son arrived at the coffee shop inhabited by me and my mates on Saturday mornings. He had with him his mate whose dad had loaned them a 993 S. So I took it for a drive. Holy Smoke! Now I am smitten by the 993. The magic continues ...
