Default A rare opportunity

The 915 transmission was one of my specialties at my shop, since closing I have built two SC versions at no expense spared. Each has the pinion shaft bearing reinforced, new shaft bearings, new synchros/sliders/blocks/bands/dog teeth as necessary, and a freshly set up diff including pinion depth, backlash and bearing pre-load. These two transmissions are now available, either exchange ($3,000 ea.) or outright ($3,400 ea.) plus shipping. Rennlisters will have the first chance at these, after which they will be placed on eBay. A special thanks to John D. for allowing this thread. Please pm or e-mail me if you're interested.

Pete -
Would these be 220 code units?

I have been considering picking up an already-built trans for the pending clutch swap / rebuild early next spring (wiped out the budget on suspension parts this year).

Thanks!

Unfortunately your car has sensor cutouts. I've seen bell housings cut away before, but it's not very pretty! The factory put such a nice edge on the opening...

And for those thinking about it, within the past few months I've been looking around at trans rebuilds & replacements, and a good number of the quality rebuilds have been around $4k.

And that's without the "Pete" Factor.

And this is why the $20,000 I paid for my car was a good deal. I got the clutch, throw out, a synchros or two replaced, bla, bla, oil returns, tires and so on all freshly done a week before I got it. I'm looking at about 1,500 miles per quart of oil. maybe 1,200 tops. you guys told me this was a hot car, but holly crap, sunday on the 805 next to a GT3 RS in rubber glove green, who has $185,000 for a green car?

do you see the green dot that says you are loged on? that is rubber glove green. only on a Porsche.

Fred: That's a heckuva nice thing to say - thank you!

ice: Man, if you're strong enough to pick it up and stuff it under your eng... oh, I know, you must think this is the trans with the carbon fiber housing! Sorry, it isn't!

Yeah Fred that is what I was thinking too. Bad enough having your gearbox go South , then you buy one from an unknown sourse hoping it is good off fleabay. Here we have a known good gearbox from an expert..man if I could only justify it for my car .. with a good gear box .. hmmm...

sunday morning I was on Coronado Island in SanDiego and my g50 would not go into first gear. I panicked and reached for my phone....it fit perfectly between shifter and console. again, $100.00 problem solved with the help of my friends on rennlist.

Pete - does this refer to an LSD or an open diff?

Thanks!

Grant: Standard diff. Unfortunately I was never able to come up with any extra LSD units, these transmissions have original ring & pinions, but the carrier bearings are new.
