SWIMWEAR,
THE FLAT SWITCH TO TO PICK BETWEEN WHICH MIRROW TO ADJUST ELECTRICALLY.
IF YOU ARE SPEAKING OF THE DASH CONTROLS
ONE IS FAN SPEED AND THE OTHER DIRECTS THE AIR.

I think the little switch under the tach you are referring to is for the left/right mirror control for the electric mirror. There should be a 1" stalk on the driver's door by the fixed vent window that actually controls movement of the mirrors. As to the heat controls there should be four levers on the dash in three slots. the left lever in the top slot controls how much fresh air enters the car. the lever next to it controls the 3 speed fan. the lever in the middle slot controls whether the fresh air goes to the defrosters or foot outlets. The bottom lever, which should be red controls whether the heat goes to the defrosters or the feet. There should also be either a **** or levers behind the emergency brake that controls the amount of heat that comes into the cabin and the auxillary fans for the heat. First book you should get is the Bentley Porsche Carrera Workshop Manual. Costs about $119.00 and is invaluable.

As Keith said the flat toggle switch to the left of the steering wheel should be the switch to choose which outside mirror to adjust with the muchroom on the driver's door.
As far as the heat/vent/AC controls. In between the seats there is a fan control and two levers for heat. The manual heat will have a fan **** from 0-5 while the automatic heat will have a **** that goes 0-9. On the console in front of the shifter should be two dials, one for fan control and the other for temp. Those are for the AC. Up on the dash you should have 3 slots with 5 levers. The top slot should give you external vent air amount, and fan speed. The next slot down should direct the vented air to the windshield or the footwells, and then the last slot directs the heat to either the footwells or the windshield.
Hope that helps, ask all of the questions you want stupid or otherwise!
