engine and transmision mount seats ..
Hi Guys
This is a question I guess for those who have taken out there engine before or may be routinely do it . When taking the engine and transmision mounts off I noticed the lower seats had been totally pounded inside out .. As far as I know the cup seats face up on the lower side of the mount and face down on the upper side of the engine mount ( my Sc does not have an upper one for the transmision. In every case ( all 4 ) of my lower seats are now mushroom shaped as they have been pounded .. is this somwhat normal or is it indicitive of another problem. Also can I just take a hammer and pound them back to their original shape ?
Thanks for any input ...

Iceman,
Cool, did you take out your engine? I am not sure what you mean by lower seats. I think you mean those cup shaped washers? My tranny washers were a little bent and my engine ones were all nice. I replaced my mounts but I don't know how to tell if they made a difference. I left all the washers alone and just cleaned them up and spray painted them. Can you show us a pic? Hope that helps.

I just looked at my car and I see what you are talking about. My lower seat was not bent at all. The tranny mount keeps the washer away from the body by about 1/2 inch. The only thing I think that would do that is lifting the engine and removing the engine mount at the same time, i.e. unbolting the engine mount from the body. Then the engine mount wouldn't be able to keep the seat away from the body and then the weight of the car would be on the lower seat. But I don't think it is a major structural problem. I am not sure of the function of the lower seat other than to keep the engine crossbar from directly contacting the engine mount.
