Building a '73 RS(R)
I'm going to erect a workshop in my garden, and of course I'll need to put something in it or my wife will be very cross with me. I'm thinking of building a '73 ducktail wide butt.
Since buying an original one isn't really on (I know of an original one in martini colors for sale at 350K in Germany right now), but I've been in love with them since I were a wee lad, I'll build one myself.
The object of the excercise is a quality build, as mechanically true to the original as possible. That means no 3.2's, as little plastic as economically feasible, but still keeping a firm grasp of the purse.
What would be a good base to start from, and what would be a good source for body parts, etc...
Any tips warmly welcomed,
Peter R.

I am currently hunting for a Project car at the moment!
My advice is to research as much as possible and as these cars can be extremely expensive when built right!!
To help you really need to start off with the very best project car possible for the least amount of money.
I would start buy using a 1973 Chassis to keep the car as authentic as possible.
Here are some sites that may help with ideas;

TRE Motorsports has been turning out some nice conversions. They have come out with kits. Give them a call.

Rothsport has had a succession of cars featured in Excellence magazine. The last of which was a beautiful, red 3.8L engined "RSR".

Are you dying to build one? Or dying to _have_ one?
Porsche Doc has the one he built for sale on this bbs. It is heavier, but has a stiffer chassis and is faster than a 'real' one.
Generally, you will be far more money ahead to buy a built-up project than do to convert a car.

Performance products has a martini in the lobby right now that is unreal. I had to get down on all four and see if it looked like mine under there too. it did, sorta.
