Default Ignition Coils

I think its time for a new ignition coil. But I can't seem to find one that matches the one thats I have now. Mine has the two terminals next to each other rather than the ones I see available that are on opposite sides. The label thats on my Coil is Vorsicht and #s on the bottom are 0221121006 431. Can I use the newer style and replace with individual conectors? thanks in advance

Thanks emack. My pcar is a 74 2.7 Targa to Cabriolet widebody conversion. Theres not much original on this car but its runs great. This coil looks as likes its 33 years old. I snaged a like new Bosch super coil on ebay for cheap but the terminals are on opposite sides.
The coil which is brown and labeled caution in German have the terminals next to each other with a double capped terminals that attach. I could separate and put new caps for each terminal.
I'd feel better if I could find an exact replacement though.

Unless someone else jumps in I say you can use the new coil. I owned VW's many years ago and they used the common round coil. I still have one that must be over thirty years old and it fires up my 81.

Just stay away from the silver coil from Brazil unless you want to replace them on a monthly basis.

Did you check Pelican?

you have a picture of it? Cause I think I have one laying around. Cause if it is what I think it is, i might be able to sell it to you for cheap. It is just taking up space in my garage. I'm in the process of cleaning it.

Want to sell me your "like new Bosch super coil" from ebay?

I turned my positive terminal too far and oil dripped out when I was replacing my points with a Pertronix system the other day.

He's absolutely correct, as has been stated before.

My ' Brazillian " coil didn't even make it to the highway .. managed to limp home with it ... took it back off and chucked my brand new 80.00 coil in the garbage ( being electrical I can not return it ) . put my original black 30 year old one back on .. runs like a top. ..

My recollection is that there needs to be specific coils for CD systems. So, you may want to confirm that what you have will work for your system. For example, as I understand it, the standard Bosch blue coil will not be good for a CD system.

Jay:

The car will run fine with Bosch blue coil; its simply doesn't make the same HP using the coil designed for CD ignitions.

I use the MSD High-Vibration Blaster coil in lieu of the crappy silver Brazilian made ones.
