Default 356 wheels for 911

Hello all,

I have a friend with an '84 911 cab who is interested in backdating the car a la 356. It's a pretty cool and interesting look so far & he's now looking to potentially add 356 wheels (the ones with the silver 'moon' center). Any idea if these wheels will fit an 80s 911?

Thanks

most likely not.. most 356s had drum brakes, with a really wide 5 bolt pattern.

you will want steel wheels from a 912 to have the same pattern as an early 80s 911 (it will have the same off set as fuchs, so if you cant fit fuchs, you cant fit these either). depending on how wide the fenders are you may want to have the widened too.. depends if youre going for a true original 356 look or an outlaw look.

That is the weirdest thing I have ever heard of. I wish I had some good advice for you but I can't give you any. Do you have any pictures of this Porsche frankenstein?

Harry, thanks for the good info. I think the idea is more of an outlaw look but with some 356 heritage as a reminder of one of his previous cars. Any idea where to get 912 wheels and, if necessary, who might widen them?

Oshin, it is a very different concept but it's kinda cool. I'll see if he's interested in posting some pictures.

1964 and 1965 356's had disk brakes.

You can probably find some old 912E steel wheels and hubcaps from 1976. They used to equip the bare-bones 912E that way.

Edgy, do you know which vendor(s) might carry the steel 912 wheels?

Try Jim # EASY autoparts....(510) 653-EASY...

The short wheel base 911s had standard wheels pretty much like the 356s and 912s. A 911 from the 80s with 4.5/15" or 5.5/15" wheels will look like a paraplegic car though...IMHO of course...

for an '84 backdate to disc brake 15" steel wheels, really nifty would be to go w/ 7&8s.
