Default How much Horsepower with Bolt-ons?

Just wondering how much horsepower has been achieved with just bolt-ons (no interal mods) by people here. I was on the 911 chip website and saw some pretty impressive numbers. But I would like to hear from people on this forum.

So far my only mods made to my 88' Targa are a SW chip and a M&K exhaust. Just curious just how far some of you have taken yours.

Cheers!

I am interested as well.
My '88 had a Weltmeister Chip and K&N air filter on it when I purchased.
Do you know what you gained from the M&K exhaust?
Looking forward the the responces!

Actually, the M&K is not installed yet. I hope to have time in the next day or two. I will let you know what happens. From what I have heard, not much HP gain. Especially without cat bypass or euro pre-muffler. I was most interested in improving the sound... at least to my ears. However, depending on what I hear, I may go for more!

For a CIS I've only heard that SSI headers and mufflers have much effect. I have SSI's, a sport muffler, and a K&N filter.

Theorheticallly, these mods, plus my head work should bring my 2.7 from 165 hp up to about 192 hp. (16 hp for exhaust + 8 hp for head porting + 3 hp for free flowi air filter)

Bench racing is rarely accurate but my accelerometer seems to confirm these results...

Installed the M&K muffler today and I gotta say I love it. I have not really had a chance to see if there is any noticable gain, but the sound is sweet! In fact, it is just about perfect. I was considerering going with a euro pre-muffler or a cat by-pass, but now I just may leave it. I have to get on it here in the next day or so and see if my butt-dyno notices any difference. So far, very happy.

Actually, the best mod is a mass flow sensor. Makes the car much more drivable. perfromance products used to sell, but not sure where you can get now.

early,

FWIW, I installed the Dansk Euro pre-muffler on my 88, and it made an incredible difference. Uncertain as to how clogged my cat was, but acceleration improved dramatically, and the sound is really sweet!

I love my SW chip, but please take ALL of these "HP gains" with a big 'ole grain of salt

The best return comes from improving the suspension and most of all when having
completed a Porsche DE class, e.g. PCA or POC.

I think this is the first time I've ever agreed with Loren on a "chip thread"

i just did the k&n air filter and the fabspeed air box cover. what a difference in responce. much more drivable car. very smooth pull from much lower rpm. my idle is lower and I swear my rev limiter is higher. I can now control the rev's above 6,000. it doesn't drop rpm's as bad when I let off either. sound is hot. it's a new car.

I had a 964 cam, headers, exhaust, k&n and custom ture on my old 3.2, and that car made 225 at the wheels on a dynojet. Clearly there is more power to be had if you go looking, but it starts to get expensive.
Then I saw the power of tuned 3.6s...

The best fix is a 3.6 varioram in an early car weighing 2300 lbs or so...it's all about power/weight ratio.
Talk to Steve Weiner, he'll tell ya...LOL!

I also agree with Loren... do the imporant stuff first, suspension, lowering, good tires.
Do a DE see what happens. I have done the Steve Wong chip, extrudehone plentums
bored throttle body, magnacore wires, flow matched injectors, Fabspeed Euro premuf
and dual out muffler, adjustable Koni's and a custom MSDS cone filter. As for what I
have at the rear wheels for Hp... don't really care !
This is a weekend toy that is much more drivable and enjoyable than stock

That's what I'm talking about! I've had a lot of fun doing all kinds of upgrades... some quantifiable, some not (other than looking in my wallet ).
