This may be dumb question, but people suggest Mobil 1 for their G50 and I am not sure what they are talking about. Here is a list of Mobil 1 weights. Do you use one of these and which one?
Mobil 1 0W-20
Mobil 1 0W-30
Mobil 1 0W-40
Mobil 1 5W-20
Mobil 1 5W-30
Mobil 1 10W-30
Mobil 1 15W-50
Mobil 1 High Mileage 10W-30
Mobil 1 High Mileage 10W-40
Mobil 1 Truck and SUV 5W-30 for Gasoline Engines
Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40 for Diesel Engines
Or is there a Mobil 1 transmission oil I have never seen on the shelfs?
Mobil 1 0W-20

old tee, there is a Mobil 1 tranny fluid. I use the 75w90 fully synthetic fluid in my 88 Carrera G50. It work very well. I get it at Autozone or Pep Boys, but usually all parts places have it. I suggest you ask the next time you frequent your favorite auto supply. You'll need 4 bottles. The tranny case holds 3.11 quarts, which is more than 3 bottles , but less than 4. You probably know this, but always break open the fill plug first to ensure you can refill it, then do the drain plug.

That is sage advice right there!!! You do not want to dump your old fluid only to find out the fill plug is frozen and you cannot refill it!! It's also a good time to stick your finger in the hole and see if you've been running low.
I too run Mobil 1 in my G-50 with very good results. +$8/quart :-(
BTW - this reminds me it's time to change mine......

bgiere, I went to www.google.com and entered Mobil SHC 75w-90 gear oil. It says it has been superceded by another product called Mobil Delvac Synthetic Gear Oil 75w-90 and 80w-140. When I reviewed the data, it says it is not recommended for applications requiring API GL-4 level performance. I guess my next question is.....where do the G50 trannies fall?, in the GL-4 or GL-5 category? If GL-4, then I'd be better off using the stuff in auto supply stores. Anyone care to comment?

Mobilube is still available and it is what you should be using...The Autozone M1 is used extensively but it really is a "gear oil" and is not optimum for manual transaxles. As far as GL-4 or 5 ratings are concerned, I was told by Brian Copans (P car tranny specialist) three years ago that they recommend and use either Mobilube or a cocktail mix of Redline 75-90NS and MTL....GL-4 rating is for yellow metals that are present in some trans and I was told that it is not something I should ne overly concerned about when using either Redline or Mobilube. Also, I have been told that Delvac is a substantially equal substitute for Mobilube. That's what I've learned over the years and I have raced using both lubes with no apparent wear problems. If you are inclined you could send a used oil sample to Blackstone Labs or any oil testing lab and make sure the lube is doing the job!
