Thanks for all the messages! I am back in the beautiful midwest. Car is currently garaged with family in FL. I will decide in the next couple weeks on how I am going to get it home. Right now I am leaning toward driving. I am very happy with the car. The selling Rennlist member has been great!

I bought my 81 911 Cab (44k miles / all original and fantastic condition) in Kansas City last November and could not find a transport to take it back (without waiting 30 days for the pickup) so I drove it back to Los Angeles in 20 hours. It was a great trip but I had a tire blow out 2 hours from home which caused some wheel well rash that had to repaired and I also hit a bob cat or some other small animal late at night which took out a fog light. I just recently noticed that the valance under the fog light is also slightly bent in which will need to be taken care of. Fortunately insurance covered all the repairs and even the tire blow out. Lastly I got a speeding ticket. So while the trip was fun it did have its downside. The lesson learned - don't drive late at night. I wish I would have stopped at a hotel. The tire may have survived without all that driving (excessive heat?) and less animals come out at night. But I also drove my 928 back from Arizona with no stories.

I drove my 1974 Triumph TR6 home from Atlanta to Chicago a couple years back. I'll never forget having the top down @70 degrees F, driving up I-75 with waterfalls coming off the rocks onto the highway. Lots of fun.

I'm actually planning a Blue Ridge Parkway (ranked #1 road in the US) trip on motorcycle and can't wait to drive it. Maybe you could swing by part of that 469-mile BRP road on your way back? It seems like it might be on your way to Chi-town.

The car looks great!!! How many miles on her? I had my car shipped from Florida to NJ- didn't want to take it on such a long ride- also a function of not having the time to do it.

Looks like it also needs windshield wipers too

It has only 64,000 miles. Yes, I took the windshield wipers off when I polished and waxed it.

Still considering driving, however, shipping sounds so much easier. I agree that my son would love it (at least for the first few hunderd miles).

I will figure it out in the next couple weeks.
