Post Ball Joints

77 911 Euro pulls to the right a bit. When I take off the road for the winter I was thinking I would check the ball joints. Is this a do it your selfer or am I looking at more trouble than it is worth doing myself. Also, what will I need? Tools, parts, grease etc. Estimated time. Just had a alignment and wheel balance. Still pulls, shop did not mention anything needing to be replaced.
Thanks.

Check your tire pressure. Also, do your brakes bind at all? Could be caliper rebuild time.

Certainly if you are getting into the ball joints you will have the opportunity to perform all sorts of work. Turbo tie rods, new inserts for the shocks, replace the A-arm bushings: this sort of fun! If the car will be up on jacks for some time you might consider saving the $$ and getting these parts together.

The ball joints are not a likely cause of the pulling. Alignment or tires are much more likely to be the issue.

That said ball joints aren't too tough to replace. There is a special socket used to remove the base that helps, though many people use a chisel and hammer.

The pull is like 95% of the time but every oncve in a great while it will drive straight. Also, I have noticed that the car will pull to the right under breaking. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

There are a few tests you can do, but if it's pulling under braking, I would suspect a stuck caliper, which usually means you need to rebuild front calipers. I've done this and it's a day job with compressed air and some elbow grease. Not bad at all.

The car does not always pull to the side under braking, just sometimes. Also, would a worn out caliper cause the car to pull to the side under normal driving (non braking)? What do I need to rebuild a caliper, parts, tools?
Thanks.
