advice needed
I am looking to get another 911, lost my previous one in an accident. I have been bouncing around with different ideas, looking at 3.2s and 993s. I had a 491 car and would like to find another.
I am considering a one owner car, 86 491, but the mileage is high, around 180K. The car has been repainted, had a top end, and every receipt since it was put on the road.
Am I foolish for considering a car like this, I would do a PPI before I pull the trigger. I dont want a show car, just something I can drive and not worry about too much.
What would the car be worth?
Thanks
Everything on these cars to keep them running can be fixed with money. You can buy a 60,000 mile car that might be in need of a top end within 10,000 miles and a PPI may not pick that up. You could buy a 30,000 mile car that needs a clutch. This 180,000 mile car may not need anything major for 40,000 miles. Condition is everything on these things.
Pricing could be tough to really nail down. If it's running, driving and looking well, it could be a $10,000 to $15,000 car. There probably isn't all that much premium left in the M491 option since the mileage is high, but that option does help prop up the value just a bit. If major work is looming, the price will be closer to $10k. If the car is pristine for it's mileage with no major work needed and it's THE car for you, paying $15,000 for it might be worth it to you.
I don't think any good running 3.2 is going to drop much below $10,000. Only cars that need serious reconditioning are going to drop below $10k.
Good Luck,

What appealed to me on the car is the fact that is has mostly everything done. Top end rebuild, clutch les than 20,000 miles, tranny rebuilt at 150,000, brand new brakes and rotors, major service 400 miles ago, valves adjusted. The PO seemed to be on top of most things. He had the car painted (windows, engine and interior out).
I had considered saving up and buying a nice low mileage M491, but those cars are commanding a huge premium. To spend around 30K for a car and be afraid of getting it scratched doesnt appeal to me.
