Post Porter Cable Buffer ???

Where is the best place to get the Porter Cable random orbital buffer from? I know I can get it from Meguiars for about $200, but I thought someone here on Rennlist named a place for about $150.

Lowe's sells the Porter Cable for $109. You can also order it from <a href="http://www.properautocare.com/porcabpolac.html" target="_blank">Proper Auto Care</a>for $129.

There is another place on the web that sells it for $119 but I can't find it at the moment. It is preferable to get model 7336 instead of 7424 because it has the larger counter weight and bigger backing plate.

Coastal Tools sells a Porter Cable polishing kit. Best deal on the internet...at least it was when I bought mine.

Geoff,

You can also try mytoolstore.com.

Griot's sells the PC random orbital for 199.95, and justifies the higher price by touting a better quality backing plate that largely eliminates the transfer of heat from the machine to the buffing pad.

Thanks all, now to set about restoring the paint on a 1987 930 Slantnose from Florida for my friend. I can't believe the neglect sometimes.

The backing plate at Griot's is a Porter Cable backing plate. I suspected as much, and called Griot's and they confirmed. Coastal sells it, and it's about $15. Even with the extra charge for the additional backing plate, Coastal's deal (with the proper counterweight, etc.) was the best around when I bought mine.

Two things **** me off about Griot's. Their high prices and the bullsh!t they spew trying to justify it.

The place is a ripoff, plain and simple.
