Default Does this sound like a scam to you?

I am trying to sell my 88 Carrera and got this email today...sounds fishy to me. I responded but haven't heard back yet.

"Dear sir,
I am an international business man, specialised in dealing, purchasing and selling of AUTOS.I also help my foreign client to ship their autos to any place of their desired country or destination, most especially EUROPE, cause i have a shipper who takes care of the shipment, so shipping will not pose any problem.

Presently i have a client who has asked me to help him purchase the item subjected above which will be shipped to EUROPE. As i was browsing through the internet, i saw your advert and i will like to purchase it for my client, but before payment will be made i need to be sure of who i will be dealing with if you are going to be honest and sincere throughout the transaction.

So to start with, signify your interest by forwarding to me your last (PRICE) as well as your method(s) of payment through mail, after which we can continue with the transaction and i promise if all conditions and agreement are accepted and reached on time, payment will be made out almost immediately.

Hoping to here from you as soon as possible.

Respectfully,"

( sorry if letter writer is on this board...just trying to be careful)

a couple of years ago I sold a 1995 MB S500 coupe, and at the time I had it adv. on Autotrader....I received an email regarding same, and began negots. for same. Was advised that the client had given the broker a "cheque" for 25K, more than I was asking....etc etc...I agree to refund diff. of cheque blah blah blah...well I got the cheque via fedex, Bank Of America...looked like the real deal...however, I am by nature suspicious, and so I called BoA and had them check the cheque, so to speak and of course.....worthless. This sounds very much like what I received....this guy sounds like he is full of BS...why does he need you to repeat asking price etc....payment method...uhhh that would be cash, certfd cheque or wire trxfer...just like everyone else does....well, thats my 2 cents...

Total scam...got one of these types every other day when I sold my 928. Delete the e-mail and don't reply. They will go away.

Mark: Sports Car Market Magazine (SCM) has been devoting time and effort to scams, and I'm sure that they would love to hear from you on this one. You can use "youwrite@sporstcarmarket.com" as your initial contact. Give them your name, address, phone numbers, etc., I'm pretty sure that you'll hear from them.

Classic scam - why not e-mail back and play him for a while, just for fun!

I got a bunch of those when I was selling my 944.

As MarkShu said...they send you a check that is more than the amount you ask with the agreement that you will wire them back the remaining amount after the purchase price.

If you deposit the check it will go through and you will think that you've got the amount in your bank account. So you send his money back to him and think all is well and try to contact him again to arrange shipping and pick up. You'll probably never hear back. Then a month later you'll find out from the bank that the check is no good. And you will have been scammed out of the amount that you wired overseas.

Any time you get an email that has the words AVERT or ends with "Have a Blessed Day"...just delete it.

If you get something via email you can flag it as suspect. It's untraceable (essentially to you and me) and it's cheap for them to send out to thousands of potential victims.

Like the others have said, total scam.

I had fun with these when I sold my RSA. I would tell them to call me to discuss further as they really only seem to like to work via email. I then would tell them that all sales would require a notarized and signed bill of sale accompanied by an official certified cashiers check that would need to be verified and cleared by my bank prior to delivery of the car. After that they vaporize.

The clue for me is that when I get them they say they are interested in my "item" for sale. I had three of those in one week when I was trying to sell a car via craigslist

just email him and tell him you will send him a check for twice what you are selling the car for .. and he should wire transfer the difference to you .. once you receive it you will send him the car ..... that should do it :-)

Yes an additional way to have fun with them. "So, tell me what specifically interests you in the car?" Many times that will also send them scurrying away, or if they are clueless you immediately know something is not right.
