Default Want to Buy Porsche Service Manual 1984-1989

So I looked online for the porsche service manual by bentley publishers because I hear good things about it and frankly I am sick of paying my mechanic $110/hour to do odd jobs like change my oil haha. I mean, I do believe hard core things like engine rebuilds and transmission services are best left to the pros but I am willing to try and fix small things on my own. I saw the book on Amazon for $75 dollars but I saw the same book on BarnesandNoble.com for $119 (full price) but it said it was a "REVISED" version. Hmmmm I dont know what to do. Bentley's website lists two different ISBN numbers for the book and doesnt say "REVISED". Are they any better books? What is the most current version of Bentley's? Someone please help me I would be very grateful. Plus whenever I do work on the car, I would definitely enjoy the company of other fellow rennlisters

I've used the Bentley book since it came out, so I must have the early version. It's probably the best non-factory manual. You can always contact Bentley directly w/ an inquiry about the revised version.

My Bentley has an 'Editorial closing" of 03/00 so it was revised in 2000. ISBN 0-8376-0291-2

It is the bible. Wayne Dempsey's 101 Projects is also a nice supplement on certain jobs. Those & Rennlist & Pelican & you're ready to wrench. Use the search button on both forums. Someone has btdt.

Amazon has it for 75 dollars which isn't bad but they don't say if it is the recent 2003 revised edition. Would different editions have different ISBN numbers or the same number? I think there is a 5th edition out and the one on amazon just says "1 Edition" whatever that means.

I have the exact same book with the same ISBN #. I bought mine from Amazon about 5 months ago. Everything else you said is right on. Bentley doesn't show everything you need to know, but combined with the above listed resources, you should be able to do most anything.

P.S., my dealer wanted $190 for the oil change. No thanks. I did it myself for about $70 total (oil, filter, crush rings, drain pan, funnel). I also changed 5 blowers so far, which were very easy to do.

My car came with the full set of Factory Service Manuals. I am thinking of having Kinko's copy them onto a CD in PDF so I can just print the pages I need. They are the best in my opinion..

They are in Dallas and listed on ebay, but would consider ending the auction for a good offer.
