1988 Carerra, $14,000?
I am looking at a 1988 Carerra the asking is $14.
112k miles original guards red with White interior, respray has been done.
No engine rebuild , if a PPI looks ok what is this car worth?
Tks

if you like it & the ppi checks out (a thorough one done by a pro on old 911s, including a careful inspection of the chassis for accidents, engine tests & review of its history), it is worth buying.

If it seems too good to be true.... Be sure to do your due diligence on this one imo. 14K is well below typical market values for Carreras. If legit, as others have stated, it'is a good deal, but could also be a ticking time bomb.

Excellence is way high (though those figures are dated from 2005, as DM said) IMO. Many people especially on a local level have no idea what these cars are worth, or even that there is a difference between 915 and G50 values. You will only know from seeing the car and getting a PPI how much or how little that car needs. $14K way be on the low side, but $17-18K migh be the high side. Someone looking for over $20K for an 88 better have extremely low mileage and museum-grade original paint!

The paint re-spray, along with no valve guide replacement and high mileage is the reason for the $14k price tag. Seems fair to me. When you do the PPI, make sure they actually check the valve guide wear. If your car has no accident history and a decent service record, and the guides, clutch, engine check out, I would think that paying $14k is a good buy.

I agree that we need more info to assess a value on this car.
How good or bad is the repaint?
A white interior can look pretty ratty if it's well worn. How is the interior?
What mechanical issues are present?
If she's a dog with a bunch of mechanical and cosmetic issues, you can spend quite a bit on this car and still not be done. If the repaint is poor, it'll cost quite a bit to correct that issue.
So, this car is either a bargin and underpriced if it's got a quality repaint, decent interior and minor mechanical issues. It's priced right if it's in need of $2000 to $3000 worth of work (cosmetic and/or mechanical). It's overpriced if she's a leaking, abused and worn out 911...
