It is a normal option. but I would guess that only about 20% of the cars have them. Fortunately, retrofitting an LSD in a 915 or G50 gearbox isn't that difficult of a task.

Many of the factory ones are worn out by this point. The clutch plates have a finite life.

Default LSD worn out?

Jack,
I have LSD spec'd for my car and when I tried Redline NS 75W-90 it chattered, so I put some LSD additive in it and it's fine. However, I noticed this summer when it was in the air that when I rotate a rear wheel forward the opposite one rolls backwards. I thought if the car had LSD they'd both roll forward. So I'm wondering if that indicates worn out clutch plates and inoperative LSD?

I have LSD and when i rotate one wheel forward , the other indeed goes forward also so you are correct in the theory anyway .. .

The LSD option is very rare. My shop averaged between three and five 911 service/repairs a day and we could go months without seeing one with LSD. SOP was to turn a rear wheel before re-filling the trans so we would know to add the LSD additive. Properly cared for the system is extremely reliable, we repaired very few of them.

Thanks Peter. I wonder why they are rare? I can say that in rain its not very fun on the street.
