Diecast Porsche Models

I'm sort of into them also. I also like the 962s & 917's. However I try to stay with 1/43rd scale due to limited space. I do have some nice 1/18 Auto Art 917's. I started by limiting what I bought to overall LeMans winners. However, I also have the F1 cars that M Schumaker drove as well along with various other winning Porsches.
TRhere's alot of dealers around. I usually deal with Greg White at Designs In Motion out of St. Louis.

Burning Brakes
VERY nice pictures.
Where do you recommend buying models from?
Are there any particular companies that make the best models?
Do you prefer 1:43 or 1:18? I think I may start collecting 1:18's when possible.

That was a nice website Robert. But I do have to give a plug to your local model shop guy. These folks are into models like we are into Porsches. For some, their hobby may be almost as expensive as Porshce upkeep (hard to believe I know- but with many diecasts $100 OR MORE they add up: buy 7 or 8 of the cars or buy a B&B exhaust setup- it all depends on what hobby turns you on)
Model shop guys are the best source because they know the ins and outs and other collectors. Just as Fred knows Bob who knows Jim who knows this guy up in Cedarville who has a couple of 3.0 engines-one of which he might sell you, model guys collect and know how to get hard to find models or diecasts. My local model dealer found me a 69S model from a private collection. The model was made in the early 70's and would be extremely hard to find today if it could be had at all.
And the applicator technology has changed. Gone are the days of globbing out stinky glue from that Testors metal tube all over your B-17G and the table. Today they have needle applicators that apply pinpoint glue, solvents that weld long seams (remember how you could never get those airplane wings or bow of the aircraft carrier to completely glue together)
Check your model shop and if he can't help you call the number in my previous thread and he can help you.

I just found a wonderful source. I looked all over for my model (C2 Targa) - he had several and in different COLORS! Here is the information, no connection: Automotif, 2941 Atlanta Road, Smyrna (Atlanta), GA 30080. e-mail: automotifinc@aol.com contact: Milton Hill
He had several Porsche's all different models including some of the racing livery. I paid $18 for a Fujimi Model kit and $24 for a 1/18 Anson Die cast....

Hi everyone,
You know, looking at some of the posts I'm amazed at how similar my collection is to everyone elses. Though, I guess I shouldn't be too surprised, after all, we all like the same marque and there just so many different Porsche miniatures out there.
It seems that the greatest selection, by far, lies in the 1/43d scale, which are very nice (and because they're small you can really collect a lot of them). Unfortunately, I favor the 1/18 scale cars. I like the size and they're easy to handle (pick up and, you know, play with).
There are various sources for the cars; lately, I've been ordering direct from Exoto. Their 935 (Moby Dick) and 934 (fastest turbo) are outstanding. I'm not kidding. I received the 934 just before the Rennsport Reunion and compared the Exoto model to the real deal (an orange car with no decals, etc., just plain orange) and the detail of the 1/18 version was just incredible!
I recently advanced ordered Mark Donohue's 917/30 panzer in 1/18 ... can't wait.
If 917s are your thing, check out the Auto Art series of LeMans cars. All nicely finished.
As for an '87-'89 coupe ... can't find one in 1/18 (in 1/43 they do exist). I'm thinking of writing to Exoto to ask if they would consider making one.
Well, time to go watch the Daytona 500.
