impossible to tell w/ certainty w/o a test fit. there are so many variables... tire manufact. / lowering / chassis asymmetry / rolled fenders - what fits on one car might not on another of same model & yr. one other point - unless converting to RS clone, or making significant susp mods for autox, a 50 series tire on a '73 T might be considered a bit extreme - but it's his car, so...

The original tires for that car were something like the Pirelli Cinturato CN36 in a 165/60-15 size. Dropping to a 50 series tire will downsize the circumfrance of the wheel substantially. It will certainly not rub on anything at all but adding that drip to a lowered car already,--be prepared to hit things in the roadways.

Actually, that is a very common tire size for the early 911's. The 165/70-15 is 24.1 inches tall, the 225/50-15 is 23.9 inches tall. So he would be lowering the car about 0.1 inches. He won't notice the difference.

Before I put on the SC flares on my '72t I ran 205/60x15 in front and 225/60x15 on the rear with ample clearance using stock 15x6 fuchs.
Never had a problem. Odometer was off, but nothing North Hollywood Speedo couldn't fix for $90.

Porsche has used 25" tires for a while now. All of the following are within a couple 10ths of 25".
165/78-15 (not 70, 78 was the standard profile before "low" profile 70s were introduced)
185/70-15
215/60-15
205/55-16
225/50-16
245/45-16
205/50-17
255/40-17

FWIW,...225/50's are too wide for a 6" wheel. The sidewalls are really pulled inwards and its FAR from ideal.
A much better choice would be either 215/50, 205/55 or 205/50 (although those are short and may look "lost" in the fender openings)

You're correct steve. They did 'bow-in' somewhat but at the time Hoosier said it was within their spec. Now I run the same tire sizes but with 7's and 8's.
For Solo it's 7's and 8's again but with Goodyear 23x10-15's

Hey gang: My street tires are 205x55x16 (six inch SC wheels) and track tires are 225x50x15 on 7" phone dials. Car is lowered quite a lot. Car is 71T with stock rear flares.
Front and rear fender lips are rolled which was critical.
