Default G50 Short Shifter

Does anyone have any experience with a short shift kit for a G50? If so which one? Seems they are not as readily available as for other tmisions.

the person who had my '89 Carrera 3.2 before me had a short shifter installed, but I had it taken off for a slight price discount. I've been told that the short shifter isn't really good for the older G50 trans. as it can be for more modern transmissions.

I have a 915 and considered a SS for a while, I was also advised against it as it can be more difficult to shift due to lack of mechanical advantage and can be harder on the gearbox.

I have come to love my stock unit any was and just use it for cruising...

I think WEVO has come out with a G50 short shifter. It's not on their web site so I would give them a call. I have a bunch of WEVO products in my car and they all function well and are high quality.

I have a factory short shifter in my 88 Carrera and it works very well. I don't know of any difference from the regular shifter except it is only a couple of inches shorter. When I autocross, I wish I had the standard length.

WEVO products should be in the Smithsonian Institute for great works of art and engineering.

other then the lack of mechanical advantage, I cant figure out why one of these could be harmful to the trans. any comments?

On a 915 transmission, a short shifter can allow you to hurt the transmission. The internal mechanics work relatively slowly compared to more modern transmission so shifts must be timed. A short shifter does not change how the internal components of the transmission work and therefore allows you to mis-shift by trying to change gears too quickly. I don't know if the G50 is susceptible to the same issues, but I wouldn't be surprised.

I had short shifters on both my 79 SC's combined mileage used on both cars was over 90k miles with short shifter. Never had any issues and to be honest couldn't live without it.

I have a weltmeister short shifter on my G50/52 tranny. It requires some minor modifications to the tunnel cover but worth the effort. I know of numerous people that have the same kit and none have noted any issues.
