Default What is a 1966 911 all original car worth?

I love the 1966 911 at this website:

http://www.AutoKennel.com

It appears to be pretty much original... The seller has it listed on the Rennlist classifieds (it's a dealer, not a private owner), and has it listed as "accepting offers". I'm not seriously looking for another car, and I wouldn't bother screwing around with making blind offers- I prefer when sellers actually list a price as a starting point versus this silliness of "making an offer"... At any rate, any ides on what the value of this car is? Something about this car seems so nice to me in its simplicity....

Thanks-
Andrew

I'd rather have the 69 S or the 73 T than the 66. I don't really like the color all that much either.
BTW, I didn't look at the prices for those 2, just the pic on the main page.

I'd guess that if it is immaculate and completely original, it might fetch as much as $45,000 or more to someone that REALLY wants THAT car. It probably doesn't appeal all that much to the majority of Porsche buyers though. It wouldn't handle or drive all that well compared to newer models, and the price is quite a bit more.
Sadly it has a small market and therefore will go for plenty when it does sell.
The bottom line is I'd rather have my $12,000 84 Carrera.

Sorry, every time that I try to look at the pics the web site locks up my PC...

Beautiful car! My dad had the same one in Irish Green with cork/houndstooth interior with Fuchs, sadly left in Chicago in 1976 to a couple with a red 356 when we moved to California. One of the sweetest sounding 911s I've ever heard. One HUGE pet peeve with this car. The rear AVCO bars are upside down. I don't know why so many people get these wrong. They are supposed to flow with the curve of the bottom of the deck lid, not arc the other way.

Hi Andrew...Very beautiful matching #s car...the early short wheel base cars are very elegant...you can really feel the transition from the 356 to 911...I love them...as far as mileage, unless the seller has a very good set of records to prove, it's probably bull...I'd say this car would get the same price as a very good 356C coupe...upper 20s...just a guess though...

My guess would be $20,000 - $24,000 at best if cosmetics, paint, and ALL was OK. It's just an old 2.0 liter 911.

Whoops, typo. "AMCO bars" Those are the two parallel chrome bars that go between the bumber guards in the back, and the one bar in the front.

Thanks for the replies- while I'd never pick that color on a new car, something even about the color I like, as it seems very period and very fitting for such an early (non S) 911.

As for those with trouble launching the website, it takes a minute or so with my cable modem so I'd imagine it would crash anything else. The website offers many pictures, but whatever program loads them slows down the computer. I have a feeling from the website they would expect top dollar (i.e. many thousands more than the car is worth), but then again, if the car is consigned the owner may just be happy to get rid of it. It apperas to have a lot of records (the A/C installation records are cool, even though that A/C system would most likely never work, again it's period and was installed when this particular car was delivered so I'd leave it in).

If this seller were closer to me I'd take a closer look at this 1966. It's such an early 911 that it has the wood dash and steering wheel, and everything appears to be in neat original order, which is rare as people over the years tended to rip out the radio, change the steering wheel, and the wood gets bad on most of the examples I've seen.

As to the 1984 911 comment, I agree this wouldn't come close to the performance of any 911 from 1970 on....or even '68 on (or whenever it is they started the 2.2) I think the '66 911 did 0-60 in about 9 seconds, with top end of 130 mph. If I were to get this car I'd have to keep my 1993 C2. I still don't know why this car speaks to me...a 1967 911s would "speak to me" more, but the prices of those are in the stratsophere.

Thanks Jay. I didn't even know enough to realize it was a typo. Is it the horizontal bars that are upside down, or the two protruding chrome pieces on the end of the horizontal bars that are upside down, or is it all one unit that is upside down? These early cars interest me, and am trying to learn. I have never seen one in person. Thanks. Bill Z

He's talking about the horizontal bars in the front and rear...I have some old Road & Tracks from the mid-late 1960's, and this company (Amco) advertised their accessories a lot in there. As I look at the pictures, they look aftermarket to me, and while I'd keep the A/C I think I'd remove these if they could be without leaving any holes. I'm sitting here looking at a 1967 Road & track, and the Grille Guard as it's called in the advertisement cost $16.95 for the "new Datsun 1600", so it probably was about the same for the porsche 911/912 version.

I always like to imagine what it must have been like for the first owner of these early cars, and what the first owner was like to purchase such a car. The car was made before I was born, but I'd love to have one as the car that started it all for Porsche (well, in fairness to the 356 guys, the car that started the 911 lineage )

What kind of a price is Paul asking for that 66?

No price listed on the website, and I don't want to bother asking and getting tempted... It should be considerably cheaper than the 911S and 911T he has on the site. I typically assume the seller is going to be asking too much when they have things like "offers being accepted" for every porsche they are selling as opposed to asking prices.

The rear bars are a single unit. The ends of the two parallel bars are welded to two vertical thin strips of metal. The unit then is screwed to insides of the factory bumperettes.

Here is a picture of one where it is rightside up. You can see the tube follows the curve of the deck lid.

Personally, I've always loved this look on the long nose 911s, especially the SWB ones. (Short wheel base)

Andrew: Unfortunately when the "bars" are removed their mounting holes in the bumper guards remain. And for those of you that are curious, the bars are aftermarket, and they are truly a love 'em or hate 'em item.
