Default '84 911 Oil return tube question

Still deep into my ssi/monty...and now chip project. I am replacing the leaking oil return tubes that were recently installed by my wrench. The one I am removing is definitely bad. The O ring was viewable from the top of the tube. Damaged when it was being installed (most likely). It came out split. I went to the Porsche dealer and purchased two tubes. They look like crap...cheap. Compared to the ones my wrench installed which appear top of the line. What gives? Am I safe going with the ones from Porsche.

I've never seen a less than proper oil tube sold by a dealer - original Porsche units come individually wrapped, with circlip and o-rings, in a bag that is folded/rolled closed and labeled. Is this how yours were presented to you? One difference between o.e. and aftermarket is the inside surface - the o.e. tubes are smoother/better finished. FYI: I have known dealers, in search of a little extra profit, to dabble in aftermarket parts.

These are marked Porsche and everything. Just look like stamped out pieces of metal. The leaking one looks like it was machined out of a piece of aluminium. The Porsche ones do not look like they are very good quality?

lost: Ah, ha! The aluminum ones are aftermarket junk! Problem clarified. Yes, the aluminum ones might look a little prettier, but the light gold stamped tubes are the ones to use.

The one on the bottom is the one I removed w/damaged O ring. Not sure if you can tell the difference. The top one is from Porsche, which is the one I will go in w/per your recommendation. Thanks.

What's the difference between an expandable and a solid oil return tube? Are they interchangeable? Is one better than the other one?

expandable ones are used to change tubes with engine assembled and solid tubes are used when a new or rebuilt engine is put together.
