Default What an amazing difference (SSI/M&K)

I just got the car back today. Apparently all my PB Blaster'ing the stock heat exchanger bolts helped. Only two studs had to be replaced.

I simply cannot believe the difference, in throttle response, in quicker acceleration, and wonderful sounds. "I love the sound of a flat-6 at VIR in the morning" is what I thought when I started the car. Nice throaty gurgle, banshee howl above 4k RPM, and full throttle anywhere is just glorious. I chose the M&K 2/1 to go with the SSIs. I didn't want to cut the valance and I like the low key 'less obvious' tip than I had on my Dansk 1/1. I went from Dansk 1/1 and Fabspeed pre-muffler to this new setup, and as good as going from stock to Dansk/Fabspeed was, from that to this is even better. I got the unpolished M&K 2/1 with the polished tip, the extra money that would have gone to polishing the whole muffler was put toward the oil lines. Man am I glad they changed the pre-OBD II inspection rules here.

DB,
how loud was it with the Dansk 1/1 and Fabspeed pre-muffler set-up?

The Dansk 1/1 and Fabspeed premuffler is quite a nice sound. Not as much 'race car burble' at idle or when fleathering the throttle at speed as the SSI/M&K but a nice low growl that intensifies with throttle. It was a lower tone when on throttle than the SSI/M&K , which is more of a howl than a growl. I'd say the Dansk/Fabspeed was more 'street car appropriate' while the SSI/M&K makes the car sound like a racecar. The M&K I'm describing to folks as 'barely a muffler' while the Fabspeed is properly a muffler.

What does the 1 in 1 out cost? It sounds as if the quality is good enough that if a person actually found a used one, it would probably be OK to buy?

Not actually having my "new" 911 in front of me yet, there is an outfit out of michigan that has a 2in 2out M&K that was installed and used for like 10 minutes they say. They have a buy it now of $400. I am just wondering about the setup on the 911 exhaust and the use of this thing vs. the 1in 1out unit. I have an 83. Can this be used and with what mods to use it?

I believe you'll need to cut a notch in your right side bumper valence for the second tail pipe. And you'll need new headers or heat exchangers. SSI's will bolt up to the 2-inlet muffler, and I think most if not all other aftermarket headers/heat exchangers also will bolt directly to the 2-inlet muffler. I also believe that SSI's or other headers on SC's require a new oil line or two to clear the new exhaust.

Thanks Brett. Well if that is the case, I guess I will be shopping for the 1in 1out for now.
