all kiding aside they are all great cars.. of the boxsters about the only one I don't think I would consider is the early boxster(2.5 ) .. not enough umph !! for the dollar..

but really i can't afford it anyway. For me my favourite car I would buy ( within reason of course ) and the car I like the least are neighbouring iterations. If I could save enough money I would love a 993, great lines and a 3.6 .... and my least favourite is in fact the 996.. just looks like a blob with no distinct lines....

oh well I will stick with my sc for now , turns heads, drives great .. and is truely a classic ...

This Boxster/chick car thing is really funny, but let me tell you a story. A good friend and SCCA/IMSA racer was lucky enough to do a back-to-back-to-back test a few years ago, at Willow Springs Raceway, of a Boxster, a baby Benz SLK, and a Z3 Roadster. Let me tell you, this guy is as tough as they get. What did he do after the test? Bought himself a Boxster! He took my wife for a couple of laps in it on the big track at Willow, made it dance on its tippy-toes in turn 2, flung it across the balcony (turns 3 - 5), and did turn 8 flat in top gear. If that's a chick car, then it's a damn good one, and Danica P. probably owns one!

Go out and drive:

1. A Boxster 2.7
2. A 964 Cab
3. A 964 Targa
4. A G50 (87-89) 911 Carrera
5. A Pre-87 Carrera (you might be able to find a Turbo Look 491 optioned-car for $25K)

These are all different cars in the way they drive. I, myself, would never but a G50 Carrera...I just do not like them one bit. The 915 feels more like a sports car to me. The 964 is awesome, but heavier. The targa offers some wind in your hair with solidity closer to a coupe, and the 'vert gives you the obvious advatage of a great morning or nighttime top-down ride. All great cars...you have to make your choice! It is a LOT of fun looking, BTW!

Default Go 87-89 anytime

For my 2cents I have to go with the 87-89 911. I currently own three, all coupes. Bought an incredible Velvet Red Metallic '89 with 48K for 25 grand, (a steal IMHO) month later I came across an unbelieveable Venitian Blue '88 with 28K - boom another 27 grand gladly spent. (another steal)
With two, one owner low mile cars, I couldn't decide which one to use as a daily driver, my solution, found a beautiful Grand Prix White '88 with 110k.
Sent the white '88 to Jerry Woods for a complete engine rebuild - Now I'll put the majority of miles on the rebuilt car, and rotate between the other two to keep the miles relatively low as they are virtually concourse condition.
How sick it that? I could buy a brand new 997 for the investment in the three, but nothing, and I mean nothing puts the smile on my face everyday of driving these cars in rotation. Yes, it is a sickness, but when you love a certain model, strange things can happen. I meticulously maintain these cars, and I actually think they are a good long term investment--in my happiness. Sorry to dig this up, but I had free time and was perusing old threads. Also sorry to resurrect the whole Boxster debate, but I had to add this since some day someone may search this thread and get the wrong idea.

People always "trust their gut" and "trust what they know". Annecdotal evidence, ironically, is nearly always wrong.

This article took 5 seconds to find on Google:

http://www.thecarconnection.com/Shop...189.A8538.html

For those that dont want to read the article, here is the important paragraph:

"Women don't buy many Porsches. And when we do, our choices suggest that the glass ceiling and the woman-as-caretaker stereotypes are alive and well in America . To wit: the most popular Porsche models among women buyers are the family-friendly Cayenne SUV and the affordably priced Boxster, for whom females comprise 34 percent and 22 percent of buyers, respectively. "

So Boxsters are driven by men 78% of the time. So far everyone who posted they "know" who is driving Boxsters based on what they "see", maybe this will be a lesson in believing real facts over what you casucally observe :P Casual observation is always colored by the pre-conceived notions of the observer (ie - if I want to believe "all Vette guys are middle-aged fat guys", I'll subconsciously only notice those guys)

For anyone interested, the 911 is 86% driven by men. So higher, but not a ton higher and mainly a result of price point.

I read the following on carpages dot com...

The new Boxsters and 911 continues to draw new customers to the marque - over 70% of all new Porsche customers have not owned a Porsche before. However their profile remains consistent with 40+year old, small business owning men, making up the majority of owners - a consistent Porsche statistic. Women owners are on the increase however still make up for less than 10% of owners.

This is from 1999. I wonder how many womens owners now?

To answer to initial question, "25K, tell me what to do," I would buy the newest car you can get with that money, but still within the 911 family. That's what I did, but my budget was $18k. You will not be sorry no matter which 911 you get.

Very nice example of the last of the 3.2's made, rare find with that few miles! If you want a Cab it may be a good deal even at the BIN price..
