Default How do you pronounce Fuchs?

I've always heard "*****" in my head whenever I've read the word.
I've also heard "Fox" is correct and even one guy who said "Few-ks".

I think I've finally found my G50 coupe and the thought just occurred to me that I don't know how to pronounce it.

Not that I truly care, but I don't want to sound like too much of a n00b when I dig into the details of the car with the owner and arrange the PPI tomorrow.

Thanks in advance.

might vary by region - e.g. Bavaria "Ish" vs. "Ik" for Ich...

books, brooks, hooks, cooks, looks, nooks, rooks, fuchs, (when referring in German to the animal [Eng. translation is "fox"]), Fuchs (when referring to the manufacturerer, who's trademark, stamped on the backside of the wheel, is a little fuchs (fox)).

Try an online German dictionary that has a button to push to hear the word spoken in German. Pronunciations may vary subtley in different parts of Germany perhaps - perhaps not, how often per haps I don't know.

I vote for "few-ks".. doesn't sound as crass if mis-understood.. then again some say "porsch" instead of "por-sha".

as they say, if you can't tell, it don't matter...
for what it counts, i've only ever heard fewks, with the occasional *****. for my money its fewks, but whose to say? fuches is a title in german, and there is no english counterpart, so whatever you're saying IS in german. same with porsch-a. its all about the coinnotation and denotation. In english the coinnotation of porsche is porsche, whereas its true denotation is porsch-aa. Neither is truly 'correct' one is simply the common useage whereas the other is the literal, albeit academic definition and pronunciation. if you wanted to get complicated, i could tell you i just used connotation and denotation in a connatative sense, but lets not go there....

randomhick35 -

I refuse to allow coinnotation, and avoid detonatation (one dyslexical misspelling begets another .

it's simple .. Porsche is a 2 sylable word... It is a proper name so saying it with one sylable is wrong.. I use one and two sylables interchangeably as I am not **** about it but my 8 year old uses 2 sylables consistently .... well what do ya know ..... he is more gramatically corect than I am ... no real surprise there though .... :-)

My "how to pronounce stuff" book says "Fewks." I worked with a guy once who called them "*****," but just about everyone that I know pronounces it the other way.
