Sorry guys - but I like my sports cars to sound like sports cars. If I can set off a few car alarms in the parking garage - even better.

 

True, the '74 style exhaust is more efficient and a prefered set up on a 911 if possible. However, I would think there were other pressures on Porsche for emissions reasons and noise restrictions for the exhaust design that they used for '75 and later.


I did that for the first time in my life when I just got the '84 in May. I set off a mini van alarm. Kinda fun in a juvenile way...!

 

Fabspeed has a wonderful website and I enjoyed listening to every exhaust on every different porsche. I discovered a few things:

1. Turbo Porsches don't sound as good as their NA counterparts. Even the Cayenne S sounds better than the Cayenne turbo.

2. The 3.2 carrera dual or single outlet sounded the best to me out of all of them. I mean it sounds really good.

3. The 997s sound better than the 996s.

For the money you can't beat the quality and sound of an M-K exhaust.

 

Ok, here is the fix. Best of all it cost me nothing!

I fabbed this up in about an hour. Its just a piece of 1/4" X 1 1/4" flat alum stock with a 1/4-20 hole tapped into the middle and a piece of 3/32 stock cut to the shape of the exhaust tip, and it is held together by a 1/4 20 bolt with a spider lock washer. I painted it flat black with some header paint I had laying around and whalla! It helped the noise level greatly. I get to keep my headers and dual exhaust look, and it comes off in 30 seconds for DE or AutoX ( if I ever get that far)

One of the first things I did to my car....Fabspeed premuffler with GHL single in/out and the stereo hasn't been listened to since (and has thusly been removed )! It's a sports car ya know....
