Default Swapping a '93 BMW for a '73 turbo?

I've been offered an even swap, my car for his car. I have a 1993 BMW 535, mint condition. He has a 1976 Turbo 911 Cabriolet, 5 speed (from another car?) with the right rear frame cracked. The superficial damage has been repaired but looking undreneath, there appears to be cracks in the frame and wrinkled sheet metal.

What is the value of each car and is it worth an even swap?

NC (1986 944 NA) posting for Bill who is becoming a Porsche fan after driving my waterboy.

I have never heard of a 1976 Turbo Cab... I had a turbo cab in 1989 and I beleive that was the first year they made them. Also the 5 speed was 1988 I think...though I could be wrong on all accounts I would have to say there was no cab in 1976 period...I would stay clear of that car with the other problems you have described.

No cabs were built until '83, and no Turbo cabs till '87. You are looking at a cobbled together pile of crap....proceed accordingly

As a rule I dont buy (or trade) any vehicle that has cracks or wrinkles. Your BMW is a great car especially if it has a manual transmission. This may be car that was made into a cab from a targa or coupe. If it was a good car it would be worth more than the BMW. I agree, RUN!!!!!

Thumbs up

I just read my post and realized I just did buy a 1985 carrera with a crack. It has a one inch crack in the dash. I should have been more specific.

Turbo model production began in February 1975, no reugular n/a cabriolet's were even built until 1983, and all Turbo's had four speeds up until 1989.

Turbo cabs, targas and the slantnose all bcame available in 1987. The Turbo look I think was available starting in either 1984 or 1985.

When some one comes to you and wants to trade straight across it's a little wierd anyway. But this time I would walk for sure.
