Concourse judges and purists avert your eyes. You are about to see the results of my $75 cracked dash solution for my 78SC.
Basically a new dash is about $1,000 and it is not available in Cork just Black. Add window removal plus changing out the door top trim and under dash pieces to Black, plus labor figure $2,000. I need tie-rods and new shocks more than a dash, so I needed Plan B.
I ordered a $75 plastic dash topper from Performance Products and veeery carefully trimmed off the forward part. The majority of my cracks are on the flat portion. Right now it's taped on until I decide whther I want to paint it to match.
I actually think that looks great--the way it breaks up your dash looks nice, and I doubt you are entering your car in concours events anyhow, so who cares?? As long as you still have demisting capaility I say keep it.
Dan, do you have the larger of the steering wheels? (350mm, I think)? Mine's hiding from 40mph-80mph, and the battery / oil warning lights, so I think I have the 320(?) mm wheel.
My vote is to keep it two tone. It looks very sharp, and distinctive. If someone asks if the two tone was an option tell them it was option code ULRCH1....
I have a friend who owns a Dr. Vinyl franchise and he claims to be able to die black to an exact match to your original vinyl color. If you want it original you may check them out in your area. They have a website if you Google it.
