86 911 Question
Ok, I just sold my 928 for a 911. Looking around, found a nice 86. Repainted, so Im doing the Carfax thing. Seller is an older guy, had it for 12 yrs. Nicely repainted, could only find one mechanical issue - when operating the clutch, when you let out the clutch, it travels 95% of the way back, then sticks momentarily, but quickly pops the rest of the way. Engages/disengages fine with no noises, just that final bit of travel. Otherwise car is completely tight..
Opinions?
Thanks!

83,000, $15,900 neg. No PPI as of yet. Little cosmetics, small (<2 inch) paint issue under door (not rust, peel), very minor stuff I noticed.
Could use brakes, stuff I could do myself.
Guards Red (not my favorite color, but nice just the same).
Engine compartment extremely clean...and not the "recently steam" clean look either. Used, somewhat dusty but free of oil and crap.

That clutch pedal issue is caused by the cable being out of adjustment. Takes about 10 minutes to fix by taking up a couple millimeters of slack at the end where it attaches to the release lever arm. 1-2 turns of the nut and you're done. Many people have had that same issue and I had it also until I fixed it a couple months ago.

I notice your in MA. Check all the usual spots for rust - battery tray, trough between the front suspension points. Check for oil leaks. Price sounds pretty good if the ppi checks out.

No oil leaks, which is good, suspension is tight, repainted - 7 out of 10. Not orange peel, or flaking anywhere. Car has been taken care of.
Thinking of picking it up for 15. Owner is willing to go to that price.....hmmm...time for a CARFAX.

$15K is not a bad price... not a great price. IMHO this car is right at the center of the market, so if you love it, buy it.. if not, there are other nice cars at that price if you wnat to keep looking... really depends on how much you will put into it after you buy it.... plan on aobut $2K. If the PPI says you don;t need anyting, consider yourself a grand or two ahead of the game.

Thanks for all your input! Out of pure luck, I found a 77 911S targa, 74k, original everything, paint (a bit faded). Very little surface rust here and there, no rot. All the trouble areas are good. Longs, battery tray, front suspension, rear suspension, even the undercoat is still intact and healthy. Original owners manuals, stereo, blaupunkt CB (with manual), runs ok needs tuneup hasnt run in a while. Original owner (title to prove it). Was in a garage for a long time...with what I paid for it, I have lots of $$ for the next few years to spend on it. Im sure I'll have more questions soon...
