Would you put a ducktail on this?
I'm getting spring fever and feeling the urge to spend money that I don't have on stuff I prob. don't need for my '87 Targa. My latest impulse is to put a chin spoiler and ducktail on my car.
Would I feel a lot of different in performance and handling at Track/DE?
Would it affect the future value of the car up or down?
Suggestions, advice, therapy?
Thanks,
Paul

I think it would be beautiful, I don't know if you will feel it, but it would look awsome. I also do not think it will affect the value of it. Please post some pics up if you decide to do it.

Hi Paul,
Saw you at Russ' last weekend. Aesthetically, I like your car the way it is. I doubt you'd get noticeable aerodynamic effect at DE speeds, and installing the chin spoiler is a PITA, by the way.
IMHO save you pennies for a chip or SSI or such.

The car was a Porsche "Special Wishes" program order. The color is called "Crystal Blau" and was used in the late 60's.

I think the duck and chin spoiler will make the car look worse, and the aerodynamic advantage will not be significant until you are well above 100 mph. Forget it!

Paul, the color of that car is amazing. I'd love to see more ics of it inside and out! You might not like hearing this but I think that as a "special wishes" car you have a responsibility to keep it stock. I personally think that modded cars lose their value and appeal for many buyers.
If you have the itch to spend, and haven't done so already, maybe you can consider refreshing the suspension, lowering to ROW specs, alignment and corner balance. Or getting the targa top rebuilt or some other maintenance to keep that car looking like new. It's a beauty

Ducktail was not used on the 3.2. No aerodynamic benefit... plus it means paintwork on your car... which looks pretty clean... personally, I'd keep the car origional.
Still, if you want to do it it is your car... who cares what other people think.

I prefer the cleaner lines of no tail whatsoever on Targas. I'd definitely keep the rear the way it is, but the front would look good with a spoiler. Not a disruption to your aero stability if you put the chin w/o the tail (just don't do it the otehr way around), and I think the chin spoiler accentuates the look and stance of all accordian-bumper 911s.

Leave it - if you have to do the tail on a Targa - then the duck works - but I'd leave it. If you want to spend some money - take those 7's and stick them up front - then buy some 9's for the rear. Now you will feel the difference.
