The 3.2 Carrera's are separated into two groups. The 915 transmission equipped 3.2's built in model years 1984 through 1986 and the G-50 equipped cars built in model years 1987 to 1989.
The reason I bring this up is because the G-50 is typically more desireable to buyers and prices tend to be a bit more for the G-50 equipped cars. Though, they are newer as well and newer cars tend to bring more money than the older cars if all other conditions are equal.
You can spend $17,000 to $22,000 for a very nice 915 3.2. $22,000 to the upper $20k range gets you into nice to exceptional G-50 3.2s. Over $30k gets you a very low mileage, extremely nice, concours quality G-50 3.2.
Prices on these 3.2's seem to be holding steady and even the 915 equipped 3.2's in good condition are even creaping up in value a bit since they are such nice cars. The economy is good right now, so expect values to stabilize or creap up on all of these models.
Good luck,
Jay

I paid $18k for an '85 coupe. Very nice original paint, crack in driver seat, 138K on chassis, 40K on rebuilt engine (euro pistons), trans, and suspension (w/ turbo tie rods and teflon A arm bushings upgrades). I am the 3rd owner and have all service records since new. It's a great driver.
Drive as many as you can to get a sense for the market and understand what level of car will make you happy.

A nice example of a G-50 Carrera with relatively low miles, that has been fanatically maintained w/all records, keys, original tool kit with compressor etc. would be priced in the $26-28K range.

Wow. You guys in the Midwest and East pay so much more than we do out West.
In So Cal, you can find quality '87-88 G50 Coupes for $18,000. The '84-88 cars going for $15,000 or less. I drove a 1-owner '84 Coupe with 157,000 miles that needed a paint job that the owner sold for $13,000 last December.

i'd agree with the supply and demand comment, i was looking in a 150 mile radius and it took months to find the right car. in my search 15k or less was good enough for a mid-year or SC, some in better shape than others...

I'll also add that California got 50% of all new Porsches (and maybe still do get that percentage) delivered to the US. Whether or not they all stayed in CA is another thing, but at least you folks in CA are starting out with much better odds of finding a car than the rest of the country. FL and TX were also states with large new Porsche car sales.
