Default SPEEDING TICKET HELP? UPDATE!!!!

UPDATE!!!

Thanks to all the posted about the speeding ticket. Just had my day in court. I consider myself one lucky man. I ended up hiring a local lawyer that knew both the prosecutor and judge handling my case. Without a doubt I was facing at least 10 days in jail. I had all the documents about the speedometer etc. My lawer presented the situation to the prosector and they agreed to drop recklless driving charge and drop it from 108/55 to 80/55. My cost was 250.00 fine and 66.00 court fees and no points. The attorney set me back about 1000.00 dollars. There were a couple of other cases before me that the judge sentenced people anywhere from 2 to 10 days for reckless driving. When they called my name me and my lawer went up and immediately I could tell the judge and lawyer had an understanding. It ended up that the judge used to work with my attorney and I think that is one of the only reasons I got off so lightly. Anyways.... I am SO SO glad it worked out the way it did. I think I will be watching the heavy foot from now on.

Glad it worked out. I'm also glad there is some discretion in these things. Getting a high-performance vehicle up to 108mph is different than going that fast in - say - a pickup truck.

Moral of this story: Get a lawyer if in trouble with the law, preferably one that is friends with the judge. Remember, justice is blind!

Anyway, congratulations! Time to pop open a cold one and reflect on your good fortune. For what it's worth I'd drive slow for awhile, at least in your state.

For $1316 and no points or suspension, I'd say you dodged a bullet. Thank your lucky stars!

oto, congrats...
"justice is blind!"
wrong, this example demonstrates that recognition counts, and that justice has a market value - $1000 in this case.

1000 seems like a small price to pay to avoid jail time. Cheers

I didn't read the original thread, but I'm guessing this was in VA? If so, my son just went through the same thing although his was 88/65. Reduced to improper driving 200 plus 57 costs and 800 for the atty. Expensive lesson not to get caught over 80 in VA!

A major weight lifted off your back I bet, followed by a sigh of relief... Congrats!

I used to own a porsche 930, and one rainy night I was pulled over doing 89 in a 55 the highway patrol officer said"at least you were not doing anything crazy" and gave me a warning, till this day I still do not understand why he let me go...

I don't wander over to this board often so this story is all new to me. I'm just curious, what state?

That price for the attorney sounds high for a traffic ticket, just glad it all worked out for you. I'm an attorney and I also handle traffic tickets and criminal matters, among other things. I think the reason he might have charged you $1000.00 is because the Reckless charge is a criminal charge as opposed to a civil infraction...at least thats how it is in Florida. If thats the case then the fee sounds about right.

Lou
