One report that I read stated that the pit out marshall waved the out car onto the track, then spotted the approaching CGT, which was traveling at above 160 mph and accelerating, tried to hold the pit out car but was too late.

A side note on CGTs, apparently Jay Leno had a near miss with his, spinning the car at well above 150 mph. One report said 190, but those numbers can get bigger than life in a hurry.
