Default THROTLE STUCK/REDLINE

This morning I was leaving to work and at the first light I got to my throttle apparently got stuck on the open position and the car was re-lining for about 5-8 seconds. I then turned off the car and readjusted the cable. The car was not fully warmed up. Should I be worried about any possible damagae to the engine or should I not be worried??? any comments. I am freaking out a bit. The car runs fine, but just worried about the 5-10 seconds of red-line throttle???????

The experts will weigh in here [of which one I am not], but I would think that a short period of time like you said shouldn't do any horrible damage to the car...I see idiots at my office with nice cars start it up after work and floor it in the parking lot less than 3 seconds after turning the engine on and their cars still run fine. Good thing you shut it off before the engine exploded though

do the 911's even have revlimiters built in? I know in my Bimmer I bounce off it all the time, but that is easy to do when your engine redlines at 4800 rpm's

earlier cars usually have a spring oaded gizom in the dist. rotor to limit the revs

it should not have hurt the engine; maybe some extra wear - surely no harm if it had been warmed up - note the engine is not under load...

The rev limiter did kick in, but the only concern is the car was not completely warmed up.

What was the cause. It happened to me in heavy traffic and scared the crap out of me. When I for the problem, I found the cruise control outer cable housing was broken up by the mounting point where the threads attach it to the bracket. The cable was moving in and out of the plastic housing. When I accelerated to almost red line, the housing backed out and caught on the side of the mount. I shut mine down in 3 or 4 seconds as it only reached about 5800 rpm. As I was coasting, I tapped the accelerator and it went back into the housing. I replaced the cable assembly and made a special bracked to ensure the cable isn't allowed to move. It is so sturdy now that I can hit it with a hammer and still not damage or break it.

You didn't hurt anything.

Before I would start the engine again, I'd make doubly sure that your throttle linkage is not binding anywhere or any bellcrank is going "over-center". Also, make sure that the bushings are clean and lubricated.
