Question 86 911 Targa, 10k?

I have a chance to buy a nice 86 with 140k on it. Services up to date, new targa top, nice in and out, black on black 5-speed, worth the money?

If it passes a PPI - YES! If it had proper care, maint. and upkeep, it should give you another 100K miles without much more than routine maint. expenses. It is a 17 year old car and some things will begin needing to be replaced, but hell, that's half the fun of owning one! Good Luck.

Regards,
Jim

Sounds like a deal to me. I have an 86 Targa and paid a good deal more for a lower milage example. However, if I were you, forget the milage and if the condition is good you have a GREAT DEAL. With older cars it is ALL about the condition.

Good luck!

Well im going to try to close on it today. Interior has had new seat covers and the exact milage is 146,300. it has 16" fuchs, nice stereo, and good rubber. I talked to the dealer that serviced it and they just put a new fuel pump and filter on it, other than that it is a good car.

I bought my '85 Targa last October w/ 117k on it (She's also Black on Black). Bad 1st gear synchro - but otherwise totally mint and original - I'm the 3rd owner. PPI came out very well - the usual oil and tranny leaks, the top leaks too (of course), but nothing major beyond the synchro. I paid $12,850.00

It became my "almost" daily driver immediately and has seen 5k since I bought her w/out a glitch.
After I bought her, I swapped out the 16" fuchs for some 17" turbo twists and new rubber and slapped some new wires and new alternator in. I continue to utilize the same P-tech as the previous owner.

Enjoy it! This '85 was my dream car since I was a kid, so to own it is just awesome and I've now found that I will always own a Porsche. Nothing compares!

'...the top leaks too (of course),'
Nice looking car , but in 18 years of ownership the only time my Targa has leaked was for the first few months until I spotted the problem and fixed it . They are waterproof even in storms if you have the seals fitting correctly and well maintained . Don't put up with leaks .

At $10K I'd be thinking "what's the catch?"- Then again, I'm an average Moe. You got a 9 sec. car in the garage, you're probably no dummy.

good luck

Got the car! Brought it home yesterday, Clutch is stiff, shifts good other than a little notchy. Washed it, no leaks, he just spent $1300 on all new rubber seals for nearly the entire car. Interior is in better shape than my 35k mile 951, no a mark. Runs real good but has no power compared to the 951, but I love the looks! I don't think the heated seats are working, other tan that the AC blows cold, nice stereo and even the VDO clock tells perfect time. Oh, im happy.
